Dreaming Isn't Just for Kids

Do you remember the last time someone asked you, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Do you recall your answer? A teacher? A fireman? An astronaut? The President? A Doctor? A mom? An entrepreneur?
Do you remember dreaming of walking on the moon? Curing cancer? Winning a Nobel Prize? Raising loving, giving children? Owning your own business? Achieving financial freedom?
What do you dream about now? What do you want to BE "when you grow up"? What do you want to DO? What do you want to HAVE?
I recently heard that many stop dreaming as early as age ten because the brain begins to believe the onslaught of negative responses, well-meaning or not, received when dreams are shared. For example: "You’re not smart enough to be a doctor." "Girls can’t be President." "That’s nice dear, but your chances of being a professional baseball player are slim to none." "You want to do what? Think again!"
If you are beginning to realize that you have stopped dreaming, ask yourself why. Do things seem hopeless? Do you feel stuck in a rut? Are you so busy that you have lost touch with your deepest hopes, dreams and desires? Have you forgotten how to dream? Or are you just not allowing yourself to dream? Dreaming isn’t just for kids, you know.
You have the power to create and live the life you desire and deserve. Have you tapped into that power lately? If not, then do it today! Stop working to help others reach their dreams at the expense of your own. This only leads to regret and resentment. Humbly and boldly step into your power. Reflect on those things that bring true joy into your life and begin to dream again.
Start by asking yourself BE, DO, HAVE questions.
What do I want to BE? An employee? A business owner? A volunteer? An entrepreneur? A philanthropist? A stay-at-home mom or dad? A missionary?
What do I want to DO with my life and my time, now and in the future? Struggle? Work hard? Get by? Thrive? Teach? Help others? Travel? Spend time with family and friends? Give back?
What do I want to HAVE? Debilitating credit card debt? Poor health? Monthly rent? No free time? Positive, supportive relationships? Collaborative partnerships? Optimum health? Unlimited wealth? Dream home? Time freedom? Financial freedom? Freedom to choose?
Take a few minutes before getting out of bed each morning and a few minutes before falling asleep each night to reflect on your heart’s desires. When you begin to identify things that ignite your passion and enthusiasm and excite you, write them down. Keep a notebook, pen and mini-flashlight near your bed so that you may capture the thoughts, feelings and ideas that flow to you.
If you prefer, set aside time during the day to reflect on these questions. Choose a time when you are feeling the most creative or the most inspired. Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit, perhaps in a sunny window or under your favorite tree. Without judgment or question, capture your thoughts as they occur to you. Record them in your journal, on your laptop or as audio recordings.
Next, determine if the feelings and ideas that you recorded came from your heart, your head or someone else. Only the dreams that come from your heart are truly yours. These dreams are also the most powerful and the most rewarding.
At first you may feel surprised by the answers and ideas that occur to you. Intuitively, however, you will know when you have identified your true passion and purpose. Embrace them. Celebrate them. Begin your life-changing journey with boldness and joy and with the resolve to continue to follow your dreams in spite of any "dream stealers" you may encounter along the way.
Begin to dream again…BIG, life-changing dreams! Dream of better health and greater wealth. Dream of financial freedom and time freedom. Dream of thriving and helping others to do the same. Dream of the life that you desire and deserve.
