You certainly should research what kind of camera will best fit your needs before making your final purchase. And once you've done that, continue your research for the accessory that's as important as the camera itself. Your lenses! However, just as scientists for years have been testing theories and scientists who followed relied on those proven theories, you can rely on the knowledge and experience of the professionals that have researched the different lenses and their uses. The same is true for the camera bags you're going to trust to protect your valued cameras and accessories.
The three basic types of camera lenses are the standard, wide angle and telephoto. The lens determines how the photograph will look. Lighting and composition are key factors in a photographer's decision when selecting a lens for a particular shot. The standard or normal lens for a 35 mm camera is 50mm. It's very important to select your camera bags with your lenses in mind. Well constructed camera cases with a lens cradle is a good choice for your equipment.
The wide-angle lens is a popular lens with landscape photographers because of the capability of focusing both background and foreground at the same time. They're the perfect lens for giving prominence to the depth of the image. This lens wouldn't, however, be the lens for photographing something such as a rose in bloom. The wide-angle lens has small magnification and wide angle of view normally ranging somewhere between 20mm to 35mm.
The zoom lens is quite different from other lenses. It can change it's focal length by moving in and out to magnify the subject. The zoom lens may have a focal length from 105 to 150mm. This versatile lens is used by a wide variety of photographers. The one drawback of the zoom lens are small apertures, making it necessary to have well lit settings.
The telephoto lens is at the other end of the spectrum. It has high magnification and a narrow angle of view, normally ranging somewhere between 105mm to 300mm. Basically, the telephoto lens brings the subject up close enough so that the detail can be seen in the photograph. These are frequently used by such photographers as sports photographers, since they can focus on a player who will photograph clear, while the grandstand will photograph as a blur. A backpack is a convenient case for transporting your camera, telephoto lens, tripod, and accessories to any photography site.
