They were once the only way your baby could get his milk or formula if the mother did not breastfeed or the breast was available. Glass bottles ruled the baby world and every household had them. The introduction of plastics essentially rendered the bottles obsolete, up until now. This article will examine why glass baby bottles are making a resurgence and the benefits and disadvantages of using them.

There are many people who feel as if glass feeders for babies are the best thing and should be the only thing that they use. This is based on the fact that glass is environmentally friendly and it can be recycled. This means it is renewable and if you are an earth conscious person then this would fit well in your lifestyle. The glass bottles are also very easy to clean and are very dish washer safe. If you misplaced a bottle around the house and it had milk in it, it would not retain the rotten milk smell in it like plastic bottles. Glass also retains heat very easily and can be kept warm longer than their plastic counterparts. It is also very easy to sterilize since it can be placed in very hot water.

There are some cons related to the use of glass bottles and they are not without flaws. The major problem people have with them is the fact that since it is glass, it can be broken easily. This means if a baby was to hold the bottle and drop it, it could break and shatter. People also state that if the bottle has a chip or a crack, small shards of glass could find its way into the baby's food. This could pose as a serious health risk. Glass is also more expensive than plastic, almost two times the cost.

There is one controversy that is causing resurgence in the use of glass feeders. Most plastic feeders are made from polyurethane and research is now showing that BPA, a chemical that is used in the production of these bottles; is now starting to leach from the bottles into the food. BPA has been found babies' milk and formula and can pose a health risk, even though people are not sure what the results could be. As a precaution more parents are switching back to glass as they won't have to worry about chemicals affecting their growing child. More people are becoming aware and this results in more people switching to glass.

Glass baby bottles have made a comeback in the 21st century and more and more people are investing in these products to ensure there baby gets the best quality product. There are some pros and cons associated with the use of these products, but the parents should weigh the risks and see the benefits to their child if they used the product. The controversy of BPA in plastic bottles can only reaffirm parents choice to switch.
