The Sons of the Republic of Texas awarded author Jeffrey Murrah the 2007 Presidio La Bahia award for his recent book, Texans Always Move Them: A True History of Texas, as the best book on the early history of Texas. The award was given out at the Presidio La Bahia in the 40th annual ceremony marking the Goliad Declaration of Independence. The ceremony was attended by the Bishop of the diocese of Victoria, the Knights of San Jacinto and hosted by the Sons of the Republic of Texas.
Texans Always Move Them: A True History of Texas was the first general history to ever win the award. If you have ever wondered about the exploits of the Texas Navy, the international drama surrounding the annexation of Texas, or how Texans shaped the world, this book is for you. Texas musicians, artists, lawyers, politicians, missionaries and outlaws are all included in this highly readable, colorful history.
The author decided to call it a 'true history' when at a book signing in Rosenburg, Texas, a patron asked if his previous award winning book, None But Texians: A History of Terry's Texas Rangers was a 'true' history. He realized then that Texans and Texas lovers wanted a factual history of Texas filled with the drama, riots, wars and intrigue that are a part of its history instead of historical novels. Jeff spent five years researching the material for the book, as part of a homeschooling project. The volume covers events from pre-history through 2005. Ordering information is available at www.NoneButTexians.com
Jeff graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas. He also attended San Jacinto College and the University of Houston at Clear Lake City, where he received his BS and MA degrees. He later also taught at San Jacinto College as an adjunct professor.
Jeffrey Murrah is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who enjoys doing historical research. His research had produced two award winning Texas histories.
