One of the hardest things about being a single mom is finding enough money to pay the bills. Debt is a reality for many Americans, but for single moms financial problems can be even worse. Having enough money to pay rent or mortgage, buy groceries, and take care of the kids is a lot for one person to handle. Thankfully, there's help available. You just need to know where to look.

A good place to start would be talking to non-profits in your area that offer Government financial help for single moms. These wonderful organizations offer housing assistance, employment assistance, and even tuition assistance. Check the phonebook, local non-profit listings, and the internet for opportunities in your community.

Federal and state governments also offer programs to help single mothers in need. Look up the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF, program in your state and contact them for help with food stamps, job training and placement assistance, and financial aid. For help paying your energy bill, contact your utility company first to see if they can offer any assistance. You can also contact the Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, to request assistance with your heating bill.

Another option is to apply for grants set aside for single moms. To find available grant money, simply search the internet for "grants for single mothers" and a long list will appear. You have to apply and be accepted for grants and different programs will have different expectations. Apply for the ones best suited to your particular situation.

There are also many ways you can earn extra money without sacrificing time with your children. You could watch other children during the day or in the evenings while you take care of your kids. You could watch other people's pets while they are away, clean a house or two a week, or look for freelancing jobs you can do from home. If you have a special talent or hobby, consider turning it into a business. There are many things you can make, bake, write, craft, or create that you could also sell.

Paying the bills as a single mom can be tough, but you don't have to go it alone. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. There are programs out there that have been specifically designed to help single moms who are having trouble making ends meet.

I cannot get help from anyone i have tried financial services but they have helped me already and here in phoenix they only help once a year. I just need a stepping stone i need somneone to help me get back on my feet. I am a daycare teacher and was recently let go. So therefore i lost my apt. Phoenix is as right to work state so when you get evicted from your home and got to your scheduled court date and you tel the judge the reason you are getting evicted is ddue to loss of work they do not consider that a good enough reason. I cannot understand this so they give you 10 days to pay up or your out on the street. The marshall comes to your door and gives you 10 mintues to gather your possession , your children. thats it they change the lock and your outside your apt. with no where to go. The marshall doen not care thatyou are sitting down on the stoop of your apt.crying your kids are upset and you have nowhere to go. This is the meanest form of harrassment there is. The don't direct you to get any help whatsoever its sad. I need help from someone please, thanks for listening

I've tried and tried but without any success to save my home from foreclosure, unfortunately we are about to be homeless. Without Sudesh Gahlod court order to pay child support for his two kids, he would rather spend 60 days in jail that to keep a roof over his two children's head. Well, careful what you wish for because he did spent 60 days in the jail. He's now married for the 3rd time and married to a multi-millionare woman who owns her own software company in South Africa called Vindhya System but yet he shows up in court to beg the judge to spare him that he is a poor person and he's not working that his wife support him. this man would stoop so low that he might even sell his family out just not to pay child support. He has the most wildest dream that his destiny was to be married three times. Well, I always tell people, be careful what you wish for, yah never know. So now he has no relationship with his two children. He's a person that never takes responsibilities for his own failures but always blames other for his failures. With all the help you hear out there that is available for single mothers, my journey to locate that help has now lead me to a dead end, but there is no giving up, I'll keep trying, I don't give up that easily especially with the encouragement from my two gracious and kind and humble kids. They keep me going and going and going. I will never abandon them they way their father did.

I would like to know where to turn for help if you make too much for this program and not enough for that program. It's frustrating when I am trying in ALL ways to be able to just make it through 2 weeks on what I make. There must be something for those of us who are in that grey area????

Like Diana and Sherri I have no credit card and want to know where to go and apply for grants and how to apply. I do not have a credit card and deffinitly cant afford to purchase a prepaid card to add the shipping price. $2 will buy me some dishsoap, toilet paper or even some wipes and many other items we have to do without. There are many days I just pray I can come up with that. I am unemployed and have lost everything. No car no home adn dont even have a carseat my baby will fit in if someone voluntered to carry me somewhere (like job hunting) I am fortunate to have a sister who lets me stay with her but she too is a single mother and barely brings home $180/week. Im just tired of spinning around in the overwhelming, nonhelpful web search. Please help

I also feel so frustrated but because of my kids I'm inspired to go further. I also keep going around in circle from one website to another without any help for me. I can't find a solution for the help I need. My husband stopped paying the mortgage for our home that me and my two Kids live in, at this point my home is up for auction. Where are we suppose to go. I can't find a job even if I have to clean someone's home. Where is the Government Financial Help For Single Moms or Help for Single Moms. Can the Government also bail me out if they are going to bail the BIG Automakers. All I'm asking for is to give me a loan of $250,000 with a 30 year fixed in this way I would be able to keep my home and my kids would have a roof over their head which their father Sudesh Gahlod is trying desperately rip from them and leave them homeless which he swear he would do.

I was just wondering when it says apply for free government grants it is not free. I go to each website and it says pay this amount for shipping. SO therefore it is not free. Why instead of having someone pay for shipping that the information not be able to be sent to someones email. I don't have a credit card and I have been seperated and going through a divorce, not by my choice. Times are tough for me and I can't get a credit card nor do I have one. SO how would one go about getting the grant information for single moms for free as it states it is?
