The spring time is just around the corner and for millions of girls like yourself, that means Prom season is also quickly approaching. Prom is probably one of the most memorable nights you will have as a high school student, and for many, it's one of last big events before graduation. Even though prom is one day, it takes time, effort, and often a lot of money to make sure everything goes smoothly. While not everything will go as planned there are a few things you can do to make sure it really is a night to remember. Here is a helpful list outlining things you need have done and when you should have them done by.
3 Months Before Prom:
-
Consider a Date: While many girls wait for that special boy to ask them, don't be afraid to do the asking your self. It would be a shame if the boy you wanted to go with was asked by another girl. If you know who you want to go with start dropping hints or just get down to it and ask them.
-
Start Looking for a Dress: It may be three months away, but in the grand scheme of things it's really just around the corner. Start looking at dresses. Wander the local mall, check formal dress shops, and pick up a few prom themed magazines. There are tons of dresses which makes starting your search early extremely important.
-
Make a Budget: Whether your paying for you're prom necessities your self or you're lucky enough to have help from mom and dad, you need to make a budget. Find out exactly how much you have to spend and let that be a guide from here on out. Make sure you include these necessities in your budget:
-
Prom Ticket Cost (If your date is not picking up the bill)
-
Dress
-
Shoes
-
Transportation Costs
-
Hair Appointment
-
Purse
-
Jewelry
-
Makeup/Nail Appointment
-
Think about Your Hair: Start thinking about how you would like your hair done. There are several options so find ones that work well with your face as well as your hair's length, color, texture, and your own personal style. If your getting your hair done professionally find out from friends, family, or fellow classmates which salons they suggest and which you would be better staying away from. If you can make your appointment now so you can get the time and stylist you want.
2 Months Before Prom:
-
Buy Your Dress: Since Prom season is so big, many dresses will be picked over or sold out. Many dress boutiques or bridal shoppes also keep a running list of what dresses will be worn at which proms. This is to prevent two girls from wearing the same dress at the same prom. Check with the store you will be purchasing it from to find out if they have a similar policy. If so, it's a good idea to either buy the dress right away or at least put a down payment on it if possible.
-
Make Your Appointments: If you haven't made your appointments make them now. The longer you wait to make your hair, makeup, and nail appointments the harder it's going to be getting the appointment you want.
-
Discuss Among Your Friends: Your friends are a big party of making prom night a success, so get everyone together start planning the night.
-
Secure Transportation: While your with your friends, decide what type of transportation you are getting and where you will be renting it from. Make your reservation and give your down payment as soon as possible to make sure you have the transportation you want.
1 Month Before Prom:
-
Try on Dress/Get Alterations: Whether you have your dress at home or it's still at the store try it on. It's important that it fits properly so now is the time to try it on and find out if it needs to be altered. Waiting any longer than a month before prom to have this done can leave you with a dress that doesn't fit or without one all together.
-
Break in Your Shoes: Start walking around in your prom shoes. This will help you get used to the way they feel as well as break them in. Never wait until last minute to put your shoes on. Doing so can leave you with blisters which means a very unpleasant and uncomfortable evening.
-
Order Boutonnière: Your date needs to get you flowers and you need to get him a boutonnière, or that little flower that you pin on his jacket. The florist is most likely slammed with prom flower orders so do it now so you have one then.
-
Make Reservations: If your going to be going out to eat before or after the prom, now is the time to make the reservation. As I mentioned before, there are probably several schools having prom at the same time. Making a reservation will secure a table for you and your friends.
-
Make a Plan: If you have the limo secured, now all you need to do is find out who is getting picked up, at what time, and where at. Get everyone you will be riding with together to find out what will work best and allow you to get the most out of your ride. If you, your date, or friends are driving to the prom, make sure you make similar arrangements to cut down on confusion.
-
Relax: Prom is a time to have fun. Once you have everything finished just relax and enjoy the ride!
