2008 is now upon us, so don’t just think about what to wear, knock ‘em dead with these hair ideas from Session Stylist & Nottingham based salon group owner Nick Tedd from Bliss in Sherwood.

The Bliss salon group is owned and directed by Nick Tedd Nick, who started Bliss 10 years ago with just 1 member of staff, after returning from an inspiring time working in London where he gained artistic aspirations and big ideas. Now his company boasts a team of over 25, a loyal client following, its own training school and a stack of industry awards including ‘Salon Team of the Year’, the ‘Investors in People Standard’ and Midlands Category in the ‘Edge Employer Awards 2005/6’.

‘We were inspired by the elegant classic updo’s, 60’s backcombed bouffants, both fluffy & perfectly styled hair from the international catwalks, which are all looks to go for this season. Chic ballerina style buns, Bardot-esque glamorous tendrils & ‘couture’ ponytails are sleek & ultra feminine & really easy to do at home. In contrast, we also wanted our collection to have a punky, edgy & graphic feel from the youth culture evident on the streets & in clubs – think metallic & graphic, Bowie eccentricity with a cultish, vampy feel.’

With the above in mind, Nick & his team at Bliss have been putting together a collection of ‘need to know’ hair looks for 2008 called GLAM ROCK. We hope these looks inspire you to wear your hair with ultimate glamour, rock star rebellion or an excellent a mixture of the two! The more eccentric, the better!

Glam

To achieve these urban glamour looks, we first coloured & toned our models hair using shades from Redken’s new colour range – Shimmer One, which works like a shot of botox with lip-gloss to give any head of hair, coloured or natural, a luminous high shine finish. We then applied Redken Guts to the root area on all these looks before combing through & ‘power drying’. A combination of flat irons, clamped over random finger curled sections & heated rollers gave the hair texture, before lightly backcombing to give the hair a fluffy, frayed feel – proper emphasis was placed on ‘dressing’ the hair to get real retro glamour! Redken Rewind was then applied to give luxurious, moveable texture, & finished with Redken Vinyl Glam spray shine. Varied hairsprays from Redkens new range were used depending on the models hair texture to give a ‘veil’ of hold.

Rock

To get these sensual & dangerous looks we used a combination of cutting techniques which gave hard lengths, flat crowns, sever undercut disconnection with blocks & veils of colour which both clashed & blurred to achieve metallic type finishes which are richer & deeper than looks we’ve been seeing. Styling, finishing & holding products were used from the entire Redken styling range to achieve flashy, matt & high gloss textures.
