Whether it’s the beginning of a whole new life for you or you’re simply starting over, remodeling and repainting your house to a whole new age is not as simple as brushing up and down. Countless colors, patterns and styles have to be taken into consideration to give you the look you’ve been aiming for. No matter where you are: New York, Chicago or Las Vegas painting your house should take careful planning and the right kind of color combinations to highlight the features of your home instead of mistakenly hiding it.
When we’re talking about old homes, you can always go back to your roots. Hire professionals to analyze the paint qualities of your house and choose to recreate its old-fashioned beauty. You can also use your home’s history to use colors and shades that may have been used during the time your home was originally constructed. Another option to consider is going bright and modern. You don’t have to live in the past and at the same time; applying modernity into your old residence may highlight its architectural details.
Now, as much as you may want to go wild when it comes to renovating the look of your humble abode, don’t go too crazy. Remember to blend new colors with existing ones. If you go so far without planning, you may end up with having a messy interior. Though new paint will obviously stand out above the old ones, make sure every shade is aesthetically sound and harmonized.
If you cant decide on the color and style, try using some of your furniture as a pattern. Use the kind of fixtures you already have as a guide in choosing the colors for your interior. Then, you can use the style and colors of your interior to match your exterior. Then you’ll be all set.
How many colors is too little and how many is too much would really depend on you. Have just the right selection so as to not overwhelm your house with variety but not make it too boring at the same time.
Too much contrasting colors will also distract attention to the architectural features of your home. If you’re going for accents, it may be wiser to use a lighter or darker shade instead of another color.
If you have a small house for a place, light colors will make the space appear larger. Dark colors on your siding will make it look smaller and highlight your home’s details. Be wise in these choices however. In terms of durability, darker colors absorb more heat and tend to degrade easier than lighter tones.
When choosing which sheen is better, remember that glossy paint, though they may be easier to clean, tends to show imperfections in the paint. Flat paint is better on walls and ceilings whereas glossy paint will look better on smaller house details.
When basing your choice on color swatches, keep in mind that some colors may appear differently on large spaces as compared to their sample counterparts. You may want to try out your selected color first before investing your money to gallons of paint you may not get to use over time.
It is no doubt repainting your home may not be an easy task and may take some time. Try planning your renovations with the rest of the family and enjoy as much fun as you can get out of it. After all, if it’s a home you’ll be living in for the next few years, you might as well start building your memories as early as now.
