A good proposal should always be comprehensible, well-organized, and grammatically accurate and must be specific about the proposed activities to confirm that planning has been done and to assist the reviewers in making them aware of why the particular application they recommend is better than others.
Apart from other components of the project, you must also demonstrate that you have an extensive knowledge of the current scholarship and activities and must also explain how it is applicable to their project’s design.
By devising a time frame, you reveal to the reviewers that you have done adequate planning and are levelheaded about the execution of the program.
The proposal summary (abstract) should be short, no longer than two or three paragraph. This is the first thing that reviewers and NSF staff read. Project directors make use of the summary in choosing the reviewers for their proposal. It should be written clearly and succinctly. In the given space, it should sketch out the problem, the objectives, project activities, expected outcomes and about the audience which are to be addressed.
Most proposals call for writing up the qualifications and biographical sketch of the principal investigators and other personnel for the grant proposal so that the reviewers can identify their participation, management, and dedication towards the project.
The problem statement should be clear, concise and well-supported statement as it is the key element of the problem to be conquered by means of the grant funding. The information supplied should be directly linked to the problem addressed by the proposal and moreover, it should be realistic too.
The project objectives should clearly depict the purpose of the project whereas candidates must clarify the predictable results and advantages of every objective. They should besides catalog the specific criteria of the grant program, unfolding how the proposal meets up the each criterion.
With the help of the available resources, accomplish tasks are outlined by the project plan. In order to meet the goals, in the beginning of the planning process only, applicants should list the responsibilities that have to be finished.
In the project budget, exact operating cost should be specified in detail for strengthening the proposal and reflecting the goals of the project. It can furthermore be useful to partition the funds into groups, such as employees’ salaries and reimbursement, equipment, contract costs, travel and supplies etc.
Budget information should be complete and unambiguous. Consult the Program Announcement for eligible and ineligible items. Institutional and other leveraged commitments towards the budget is one way to demonstrate institutional support of the project. Many grant applications ask for a line item budget. The budget should explain how funds will be spent and by whom. The budget should make the obvious steadiness with the project activities.
Keeping these things in mind will help you to write enhanced grant proposals, thereby making you boom more in acquiring funds for your research.
