The other day a person told me that they were trying to look up Pimsleur on the internet but did not know how to spell it. They wrote down Pimsler, Pimslor, Pimslur and Pimslir but did not know that the right way to spell it. The right way is P-i-m-s-l-e-u-r.

Everyone likes to have their name spelled correctly but this is especially true when it comes to the internet. A lot of people don’t know that even if they spell it incorrectly on the internet whatever they are looking for can usually be found. For example: on Google if a word is spelled incorrectly it will come up saying: Did you mean: pimsleur. So that makes it a lot easier.

Who or what is Pimsleur? The Pimsleur Language Courses were developed by Dr. Paul Pimsleur. He taught at various educational institutions: University of California in Los Angles (UCLA), Columbia University, Ohio State University, State University of New York at Albany, and lectured at Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg as a Fulbright lecturer.

He was instrumental in developing the Pimsleur Language Aptitude Battery (PLAB) which is used to calculate language aptitude by measuring verbal intelligence, auditory ability and motivation. PLAB is used today to determine a person’s language learning aptitude or even a language learning disability among secondary school students.

Dr. Pimsleur developed wonderful language learning courses. Many language experts feel like they are the best way to learn to speak a language. You will not learn endless lists of vocabulary with these courses. They teach you the vocabulary as you learn the language. It is taught to you in the same manner a baby learns a language … a word at a time. After a few words, then a sentence and a verb are added in. And before you know it you are speaking the language and saying the words. This is all done by interacting back and forth with native speakers so when you are finished you are able to say the words just like they are supposed to be said.

If your objective is learning to speak in a foreign tongue then you want to use a Pimsleur Course. Many people have tried learning to speak a new language and have failed until they come across a Pimsleur Course.

Be smart and start with Pimsleur. Learn to speak and afterwards to help you expand on your skills then pick up the Flash Cards, Verb Dictionary, Vocabulary Lists and Reading Foreign Language Books. Give yourself a head start and increase your learning curve.
