Training your Chihuahua can be both an extremely fun experience and can improve the relationship between your Chihuahua and you. However, you should follow these simple chihuahua training tips to ensure that your training experience won't be frustrating for you or your puppy.

'Potty-training' is the most important thing you can do to train your dog, and is the first thing that you should teach him or her. When puppies are born they often don't have an instinct for going to the toilet outdoors. When they first arrive in your home, they will most likely urinate and defecate on your floor, which is why it is important to lay down newspaper, especially if you have a carpet or a wooden floor. Whenever you see your puppy going to the toilet inside your house, say "No!" loudly. You should then take them outside and let them resume. You should note that Chihuahua puppies do not develop full bladders until they are at least 6 months old, so you should let them out often to avoid any unpleasant surprises. 'Potty-training' is always hard but if you are consistent you should see that your puppy can learn it quite quickly.

It is important to remember that you shouldn't get angry at your dog for something that he has done in the past. For example, if your Chihuahua has bitten the pillows on your sofa while you were out of the room, he or she will not be able to remember what he did and scolding him will have no positive effect on his behavior. It is also crucial to be consistent with how you react to things that your puppy does. If you scold your dog for something one time, and the next time let it go, your dog will receive mixed-messages and his training will not be as effective.

While it is important to show your frustration at your dog when he does something bad, it is important to remember that you should never physically hurt your puppy or make violent gestures towards him or her. Instead, raise your voice, and say "No!" or "Bad!" firmly, and then don't pay attention to him for a certain period of time. Like humans, puppies tend to learn better with rewards rather than with punishment. When your puppy does something good, always let them know. This will ensure that your puppy will repeat this action as well as improving your relationship.

It is important to remember that each Chihuahua is different. To really train your dog well and to develop a deep relationship with your dog, it is important to learn more about your dog. You can do this by observing how he reacts to the things around him or her, and by playing with him or her. If you remember to be consistent and firm with your puppy, and always let him know when he or she does something positive, your dog will find it much easier to learn. Training your puppy will benefit both you and your dog.
