It doesn't matter what kind of trip you are going to make it always wise to start with a checklist. Then you know what you need to take with you on your trip and know that you are not forgetting anything that was important enough to get on the list. But for a camping trip a checklist is even more important because if you forget something when your in the middle of nature were there are no stores then you will have more trouble getting the item. When the trip is to a city then a checklist is nice to have but you always have the option to replace the item you forgot by going to a store.
Creating your checklist
Everyone's list will be different fro each other but there are always basic items that will always be the same on all the lists. When your going camping one of the first items on the list should be your tent but when you are not taking a tent replace that with trailer or RV etc. etc. Next on the list should be the food items you wish to take with you on your camping trip. Make sure that all the people that are going on the trip with you agree on the food, you don't want long faces when you start to cook on the first night.
You need something to sleep on and in so put a sleeping bag on the list together with other sleeping items like pillows an air mattress maybe. If you do take an air mattress with you you should also put a repair kit on the list. If you are camping near a town or on a camping ground with it's own restaurant where you plan to eat then food is not necessary on the list. Instead you could put some snack items on it.
When you are going a bit rougher and are cooking your own meals then you should consider putting a water jug and/or bucket on the checklist but also items like a stove (with the fuel type you need for it), a thermos, aluminum foil, towels, trash bags etc. etc.
Don't forget you personal items on your list because you will need things like soap, toothbrush and paste all the things you would need at home for the period of time that your going on your travels.
Being prepared is really essential when your going on a camping trip and having all the things with you that you need will make the experience so much better. With your camping trip list all checked and packed you can go on your camping trip without a worry. You don't have to wonder if you have forgotten anything.
The first time there still could a few items that you have mist and maybe did forget. No worry, put them on your list and next time you pull out your checklist those items will be there to take with you. The strength of checklist lies in the fact that you don't throw it away after (or just before) the trip but you save it for every next trip.
