You’ve decided selecting a niche target audience is a good idea.

You’re smart!

So you dutifully adhere a blindfold to your eyes, have the latest copy of Webster placed before you, open a page at random, and point to a given word.

Your niche topic will be "Podiatrist". Given that you know nothing about medicine and even less about "Pods" may I recommend 5 better strategies to your finding your niche target audience?

First, create a list of 10 different interests that you have. These would presumably be things you either know about or at least want to know about. For me Internet Marketing is one of my top interests, so I will have that on my list of 10. You? Well, that’s the very thing that makes the net so nice. Your list may or may not include Internet Marketing, but it will include your own unique niche focus.

Second, if you’re having trouble creating a list of 10 items then visit your one personal bookshelf, CD collection, and video library. They are very likely to hold clues to your own particular life interests. Some of this information is bound to help complete at least a few of your list of 10 targeted niche topics.

Third, you can build your list further by surfing. No, I’m not suggesting to head to the beach with the words "SURF’s UP"; especially if you live in the desert. Unless, of course, this is a topic of interest and you can put this down on your list. However, in this case surfing refers to finding out what your favorite sites to visit are. What you have saved as favorites or bookmarks is quite likely to give clues on this one.

Fourth, listen. Yes listen. Listen to people that you hang with talk about their hobbies and interests. Often, like-minded people stick together. To that extent, whatever their interest is may give you clues as to topics to add to your list of 10 niche target audiences for your focus.

Fifth and finally, pay attention to the information that the niche target audience information being provided from the topics on your list. Often times you will find ideas for other niches from what people in given niche audiences are talking about. Whatever the case, generating your list of 10 niche topics brings you much closer to developing a target audience than not doing so.
