So how important are pets to people? A recent survey by Apartments.com revealed that fourteen percent of pet owners say that a community's pet policy is the first thing they consider when visiting and selecting an apartment. The people in the entire building seem nicer and friendlier since the pets also brighten up the common areas," a survey respondent commented.

APPMA; American Pet Products Manufactures Association reports that according to the 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, 63% of U.S. households own a pet, which equates to 71.1 million homes.
