Even though Thomas Jefferson said ‘All Men Were Created Equal’, when it comes to clothing and body type, this bold statement is totally false! Even though men have fewer curves, men’s bodies vary a lot when compared to women’s, knowing how to dress up for your body type as well as the styles that has to be avoid is the answer to honing your personal style. One thing has to be kept in mind when you’re shopping for new clothes, the fit of the garment must be your ultimate aim. If an expensive shirt, jacket or pants just isn’t right for your body type, it is definitely going to look bad on you no matter what’s the price tag! Conversely, a cheaper shirt or jacket that looks simple and fits well, accentuates your assets and disguises the ‘things’ which you don’t like about yourself will make you look like a million dollar even without an expensive price tag. So one needs to learn about how to dress up for your body type, to find out what clothes are most flattering for you.

So coming to body type, if you are a bulky guy; keep away from horizontal stripes, as it will give a horrible look at the stomach area and this is why horizontal strips of any kind has to be avoided. Go for trousers and shirts with vertical stripes, as vertical stripes draw the eyes downward, elongating your shape and visually giving you a slimming effect. Suits with pinstripes are ideal clothing for heavily built or bulky men, and it goes well with a crisp black shirt underneath. Pinstripe dress shirts will also look awesome when it is mixed with black trousers or dark colored jeans. For a casual wear, look out for a pair of dark corduroys with slim stripes which are made from thin materials, it is sure to look stunning! Double vented jackets have to be avoided, as the slits on the back of the jacket must cover your bottom. But if you have a larger behind which makes you feel little self-conscious, then keep away from jackets and blazers which are double-vented, i.e., those with two vents at the back, as these cuts will draw attention to your posterior. In order to camouflage your wider rear, go for single vented jackets or for jackets without vents. If you already have a double vented jacket which you adore, then a professional tailor must be able to make alterations at a fairly minimal cost.

Purchase clothing which fits perfectly, many believe that clothing that is tight will flatten out pudgy shapes and smother imperfections. You need to know that tight cloths will only draw attention to those flabby. Similarly plus size men believe that baggy cloths will again hide those bulges - overly large clothes will only make you look bulkier. The secret of having a slimmer look is to choose clothes which are neither baggy nor tight, meaning that all your clothes must be just right without hugging or too close
