Often women who are pregnant end up dealing with acne breakouts. Usually this occurs because of the elevated hormone levels that occur, making acne flare ups quite common. Since the things you take into your body can be absorbed by your baby, you need to be very careful about the acne treatments that you decide to use while you are expecting a baby. There are many physicians that will tell you that most medications should not be used by you while you are pregnant. Most of the time women develop acne at the beginning or even at the end of the first trimester, and for some it is a plague that follows them throughout the entire pregnancy.
Considering acne medications that you can purchase over the counter? If so, take the time to talk to your obstetrician. Salicylic acid, which is one of the most common ingredients in over the counter acne treatments can actually harm your baby, so you should never use products that contain it. On the other hand, benzoyl peroxide, another popular ingredient, seems to be safe, although it is important that you still consult with your obstetrician before using it.
While you are pregnant, one easy thing that you can do to treat and prevent acne without hurting your baby is to make sure that your face is cleansed at least two times a day. After cleansing, make sure that you rinse it very well too. Once your face is clean, apply an oil free moisturizer to the skin on your face to make sure you keep the skin soft and moist. Exercise is also great for improving your circulation, which can help you stay in shape and also can help to treat and prevent acne problems as well while you are pregnant. For women who want to use an astringent cleanser, going with witch hazel, a natural cleanser, can be a better option than using over the counter options that have harsh chemicals in them.
While you are pregnant, you may want to go with an acne treatment that is totally natural to keep your baby safe. Using lemon juice on your skin can help, as well as making a cinnamon and honey paste on your skin. Either of these can be placed on your skin before bedtime and then once you get up in the morning, you can just rinse these things off of your face. Neither of these natural ingredients will hurt your baby. Tea tree oil is another option that is natural and you should speak to your doctor before you decide to use it. A great diet is also important as well and it’s a great way to keep your skin healthy, while you are going through pregnancy. A diet in antioxidants is a great way to get rid of toxins that can reside in the body, leading to acne problems.
