Every home based business owner needs to write ad copy to market their business. This can be a daunting task for some, because they feel inadequate with their writing styles. Most people make this far more difficult than it needs to be.

I remember the first time I sat down to write some copy for a website, I sat and stared at the computer screen for what seemed hours; I'd write something then erase it. Well I have since found out that was the worst thing I could have done. But that is for another article.

Since then I have consulted with some of the big name copy writers in the direct marketing industry who have shared their 3 step copywriting secrets with me. You will be shocked and amazed at how simple this really is.

So what is it? It is called the P.S.A. formula. It is simple to understand and really easy to use once you understand the logic behind it. P.S.A. stands for Problem, Agitate, and Solution.

This is how it works. Every person in your niche has a problem they want to resolve. It is your responsibility to know your target market well enough to be able to identify that big problem and articulate it.

Once the problem is identified you need to agitate the problem, make it real. Personalize the issue by telling a story. This can be from personal history, something you have heard or experiences or found throughout the internet. The point I am trying to make here is make it real.

Then you provide the solution. This should be a simple task since this is the product or service you are selling in your home business and you know it well enough to provide them will all the benefits.

This is a powerful copywriting formula. There have been numerous studies performed that have proven over and over that people will do more to avoid their pain than they will to gain pleasure. It is human nature to want to relieve pain, and then we believe the pleasure will follow. By using this P.A.S. technique you remind prospects of what hurts the most and provide them with a solution to that problem.

Copywriting is a skill no home business owner should ignore. Learning the art of copywriting should be top priority and worked at daily. Start small with classified ads, Google advertising and try it on your blogs. The more you practice the better you get and the more enjoyable it becomes.
