Physical therapists that don't have any strong ties to working in a particular location might enjoy traveling physical therapist jobs. These jobs offer some of the highest pay out of all the types of physical therapy jobs, and give you a chance to travel around the country as well.
There are many benefits associated with a travel physical therapy job. The travel company you work for makes all the arrangements for you to take a travel physical therapy job, and reimburses you for all your travel expenses. They also provide you with health insurance, housing, and many times they also provide reimbursement for continuing education and licensure costs as well.
Your duties with a traveling physical therapist job will be the same as if you had a similar permanent position, but the length of your post will be shorter. Postings usually last around 3 to 6 months. This gives you the opportunity to try out many different types of physical therapist jobs, in many different locations.
The requirements for getting a traveling physical therapist job are also similar to those for permanent physical therapy positions. You need to have completed at least a masters degree in physical therapy, and you need to have passed your national license exam. Many travel agencies also require that you have at least 6 months work experience before you join the agency, that is the main difference in the requirements for a traveling physical therapist job. Another difference of course, is that you are willing and able to travel to various locations around the country to work in different settings for 3 to 6 months at a time.
A person who holds a traveling physical therapist job must also be very adjustable, and able to learn quickly. Each time you change positions you will have to get up to speed as quickly as possible to the requirements of your new position. A person who accepts a traveling physical therapist job many times will not get additional training once they arrive on site, they are expected to know how to perform their job already. The most they will get in many cases is a brief orientation to their new facility.
A traveling physical therapist job can be a great way to build your resume. You will be able to work in a wide variety of environments and get experience with different techniques and skills. Because you are frequently changing positions, you will get more varied experience than someone who has not taken advantage of the opportunities available to a person who takes a travel physical therapist job.
