Genital wart is a venereal disease associated with skin to skin contact during intercourse with an infected partner.

It is less prevalent than HIV infection, syphilis or gonorrhea, but this does not mean that it is not as contagious as the above ailments.

It is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus comes in many different types but the mode of transmission is the same. They can be caused by strains six, eleven.

Thirty, forty two, forty three, forty four, forty five, fifty two and fifty four of genital HPV; types six and eleven are responsible for about ninety percent of genital warts cases.

Genital wart symptoms will not show up right after the virus has been transmitted. The virus must take a silent period or incubation period of about six months when it is too soon but this could also be over this period of time.

At this time a person may be busy contaminating others who but oblivious of his actions. One disturbing thing about genital warts symptoms is the fact that to some they might appear and disappear with or without any medication whatsoever.

To others they may be rampant but without their knowledge because they might be too tiny to be detectable to a naked eye.

Genital itching

In opposition to yeast infection where one might experience itchiness from both interior and exterior parts of the vagina especially with genital warts it is different.

One may scratch only a small portion that is affected first, followed by another if no action is taken. To alleviate itching, one could rub some garlic on the affect parts.

Painful burning

This again could be confused with fungal or bacterial infection because it is too common. This is restricted to affected parts that will soon develop a wart or a bunch of warts.

Redness and soreness

The affected region might grow red due to scratching and then become sore and bumps that feel swollen are common as well.

Damp or moist

The affected part would normally be damp or moist at all times. When you experience the above symptoms, it would be wise to see your doctor for the first time, otherwise, more unbearable symptoms will occur include the following:-

Small elevated growths- these growths materialize in close proximity to each other like they are knitted together. They spread like cancer if not given proper medication attention and might push one to surgical removal as the only option available.

At times the warts may appear and disappear without any treatment. They will also recur in the future even if the first treatment was successful because the HPV viruses do not get killed. Keeping away from the intercourse until one heals completely especially if the surgical removal of warts caused scarring.
