Accredited online universities not only provide good degree programs but, are recognized by most of the employers as well. Thus enhancing the future prospects of getting better jobs.
When opting for online education you will have to do a lot of ground work and research. You will need to first find out more about the programs offered in your subject and by universities which offer them online. Once you narrow down your choice to few online universities, do make your self doubly sure about their accreditation status.
Accredited online universities mean that their programs and courses, meet certain set criteria of an outside accrediting agency. This also means that the program will be met with acceptance by most of the employers and your degree will thus hold value. At the same time you will be assured of transfer of credits, in case you opt for another university for completing your selected online degree program.
While checking for the accreditation status, look out for words such as "accredited" and it being used with the name of the accrediting agency. You may even further need to check out the authenticity of the accrediting agency as there are many of them. If you are not careful enough, you may get a fake degree from any of the diploma mills, which will not only defeat your purpose of getting good quality education but will also waste your money and time.
At present, the main accrediting agencies include the Distance Education Training Council (DETC), United States Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) which is a nongovernmental coordinating agency.
Of date, the University of Phoenix was the first online university to become fully accredited, followed by DeVry University. Capella is another well reputed college to be accredited too. Of all the online universities, DeVry University is very popular as it offers various courses in almost 70 locations. Amongst the rest, AIU Online, Boston Universtiy and IIT Technical Institute are supposed to be known for their online degree programs as well as job placements too.
University of Phoenix, Boston University, American InterContinental University and Devry University are some of well recognized and accredited online universities offering degrees in arts & humanities, Business & MBA, Computers & IT, Education & Teaching, Health & Nursing and Social Sciences too.
So, while opting for your online degree program, do go through and check out the Accredited online universities and enroll for their programs only as they have greater value when you step out for getting a job with them.
