The Dyson DC24 with Dyson Ball technology is an ultra light weight vacuum at only 11.5 lbs, yet has the suction power of a larger machine. With a compact design that makes it look like a mini vacuum cleaner, the Dyson DC24 is a machine that is as easy to use as it is to store. The DC24 not only has Dyson Ball technology but also Dyson Cyclone technology, making it one very powerful little machine.
The Dyson DC24 is made from clear and orange ABS plastic, which makes for a light weight unit that can easily be transported up and down stairs, a feature that is appealing especially to the elderly. The handle folds down to just under 30 inches and extends upward to just a bit under 44 inches, making this machine easily adjustable to the height of the user. The 11 inch cleaning path is a bit smaller than the standard 12 inch path of most upright vacuum cleaners. The Dyson Ball design makes it so that the user can adjust the path of the unit and isn’t confined to only a back and forth motion, but rather has a range of angles and curved path abilities. The front assembly is see through so that it is possible to see if debris is wrapped around the roller without having to remove the covering. The refuse tank is clear as well which makes it easy for the operator to see when the tank needs emptying. The refuse tank or bin is easily removable with the push of one button making it easy to empty.
Perhaps the nicest thing about the Dyson DC24, is the fact that no other parts are needed. The filter can be washed for reuse and there are no bags to purchase which really cuts down on overall maintenance costs. The warranty is a very generous 5 year warranty. The included tool attachment converts from brush to crevice tool and stores on the hose, minimizing the opportunity for it to be misplaced and reducing the need for reordering it in the future. The machine also includes a lifetime HEPA filter.
There are a few limitations of the Dyson DC24, for instance, the cord is only 20 feet long. Most upright vacuums come with at least a 30 foot cord and some machines even have 50 foot cords. A shorter cord is nice in applications like RVs or small spaces where the bulk of a larger cord is overwhelming, but for many situations, the operator may find themselves needing to re plug the machine several times during the cleaning process to access all of the areas needing to be cleaned. One other drawback is the small size of the refuse bin and the fact that over time the clear plastic of the refuse bin begins to become dull and grimy from use.
The Dyson DC24 is a great little vacuum. It cleans the air up to 99% for a healthier environment. Details like height adjustment for carpets and bare floors, a brush bar that can be turned on or off and a wand length ample enough to clean baseboards, corners and counters are nice features to find in such a compact unit. All of these matched with the Dyson Cyclone technology (which creates cyclonic suction for unsurpassed performance) and the Dyson Ball feature (the vacuum rolls on a large black ball making it extremely maneuverable) make for one handy little machine.
