The third type of surgery, the Caldwell Luc Operation, is an operation named after George Caldwell (an American Physician) and Henry Luc (a French laryngologist). This method is used for clearing the block of infection in your maxillary sinus. This starts from the mouth by incision to the canine fossa, located above your canine tooth. The doctor first cleans the sinus in this spot and creates a new and enlarged opening for draining.

This method basically involves removing the infected tissue. This procedure is more tedious for the patient, requiring a longer time to recover. He may also experience facial swelling.

Since the sinus is near the eyes, ears, nose and throat, it can not be avoided that there are serious complications that will appear to an endoscopic sinus surgery. This complication may include injury to the eye or spinal fluid leakage.
