Everybody loves music. Most people would want to learn at least one instrument. And violin is one of the more popular and well loved stringed musical instrument. It plays beautiful music and is often a part of an orchestration. Learning how to play the violin takes many years to practice and master.
Even though there are books, DVDs and CDs that offer to teach you the basics of violin playing by yourself, it is best to get a teacher to ensure that you’re doing the right methods and techniques. A good teacher is able to pinpoint your mistakes and can imbibe in you the correct techniques.
Another tip is to get violin lessons online. A lot of violin lessons on the internet are free. It can guarantee that you will learn to play this instrument in a short span of time. Online lessons can be a good substitute for a violin teacher but it is still better to learn from an actual teacher.
DVD videos can be played back over and over again until you are able to master a certain technique or lesson. The video can be paused, rewinded or repeated for many times as is necessary.
Violins have different sizes. There are smaller versions for kids. For adults the ideal size is 4/4. You can either adjust the tones of the string yourself or just get the ones at the store and they will do it for you. There are also tuning instruments that help you tune your violin.
The most important thing to remember is to buy the rosin in powder or solid form. Rubbing the rosin to the bow will make it speak. There were those who bought a violin and was excited to play it, when to their dismay, it wouldn’t make a sound. This is because you still need to apply rosin on the bow to make it produce a sound. There are stores who will not tell you this. The rosin on the bow adds friction to the strings so it makes an audible sound. More rosin means a sharper and distinct sound.
A brand new violin may have some adjustments to make. You have to tighten the strings, insert the bridge at the middle and tighten the bow. The ideal measurement is about 1 centimeter between the stick and the hair on the middle. You may have to buy additional pieces built to handle your violin with ease. Shoulder rests are important in supporting the instrument with your jaw or chin and shoulder. This makes your left hand free from the strain of supporting the instrument.
Download or buy fingering charts on the internet or music stores. Choose the ones with beginner scales to help you practice. If you have a piano at home, you can use it first by playing your music sheets before completely playing it with your violin.
As opposed to the famous quote "practice makes perfect," in violin terms, practice makes permanent. Ensure that you are doing the right fingering and tuning before practicing to incur the right habit. It might be harder to correct a developed wrong habit.
