Our dear little Puppies can soon become a nuisance with their biting.
Although it is quite natural for them to do so, we need to find a way to control their behaviour or to focus it on something less destructive, and painful.
Young Puppies are quite often teething. The emergence of their Teeth means that the best way they find to deal with it is to "mouth". They like to ease the feelings by biting and chewing on whatever they can.
Quite often the problem is that they choose us or the furniture.
Along with supplying plenty of exercise to keep their energy levels down and supplying Toys for them to play with and chew on, there are a few other things we can do to keep them away from the furniture and from our hands.
When our young Puppy starting chewing on furniture and biting at our hands we found a great way to deter this action. Along with giving her a Toy to chew on we would first halt the biting. This was done by finding something the Puppy does not like the taste of. A little bit of chili powder mixed in something suitable, such as water or olive oil did the trick.
By applying a small amount of Chili powder or something similar the Puppy was quickly deterred. As son as the Puppy began to try and nibble at our hands it would stop. It really did not like the taste at all. As soon as it stopped it was given a Toy instead. It would immediately play with its Toy and leave our hands alone.
The Toy worked well as a distraction. Having tasted our hands or the furniture and realised it did not like the taste, it was always happy to be given something that it could play with.
This dual trick of using a bad taste to quickly deter the Dog and to give it a nice alternative quickly stopped the Puppy from biting. Learning how to stop a Puppy biting may seem difficult but handy little tips like this work very well.
If your Puppy keeps biting why not try the suggestions above. The use of a bad taste as a deterrent to your biting Puppy works wonders. It very quickly learns what it should stay away from. In no time at all you will find it has stopped trying to bite your hands and leaves the furniture alone as well.
