The Bloodhound breed is the best tracker of the dog species. It is used by authorities worldwide for tracking wanted criminals. It has an extremely strong sense of smell rivaled by none. It has the ability to track trails several days old. This dog tracker will follow any scent to the end of the trail. This unique ability is so reliable that it's sometimes used in the court of law. Fact is that with the pooch's help, it has led to thousands of arrests throughout the world. Finding lost people is made easier with this dog. Whether its in a forest or mountain, day or night, it will find what it's looking for.
Catching crooks or search and rescue are not the only purposes of the Bloodhound. It also makes a great pet for all sorts of people. It's very friendly and loyal to its master. This dog creates a very strong bond with its owner - so strong that it will need its human not just for its survival but for emotional care as well. Leaving it alone for some time would make it feel depressed. It's very sweet and loving. Though they are big dogs (weighing an average of 80-110pounds) they're still safe to have around children. It loves getting attention and kids crawling over it.
This breed boasts uncanny tolerance. It doesn't get irritated much – even when hurt by its masters. But that's just cruel. Advise your kids (if any) to take it easy on the animal. The build of this dog is very muscular. It stands at 23-27 inches tall. Blessed with a long beautiful coat which comes in combinations of black and tan, liver and tan, or red. It face looks sad because of the wrinkles and droopy eyes. It looks the same when it's happy. It's tail is slightly curve going towards its back. As for the ears, they're quite long, pressing along the sides of it's cheeks.
Some descriptions made by children of the dog are cute and adorable. Bloodhounds can get a little sloppy at times. Its long tongue can sometimes send its food flying in different directions. It splashes water while drinking from its bowl. Another downfall would be that it drools sometimes, specially at night while the it is sleeping. Having a mop in the household will be needed. Dog grooming won't be difficult. Its short hair won't require much brushing. Bathing it should only be when necessary. Exercise for this pet is a must. It will need daily long walks. It doesn't mind hiking or jogging -gifted with loads of stamina that can keep it going for hours.
A balanced diet coupled with a daily workout routine for bloodhounds is a needed. Doing so will prevent it from developing a disease known as Hip Dyplasia. Keeping it under control with a firm but gentle hand should be observed. It is a rather cheerful dog, so keeping it that way would help with your relationship with it. Always remember to keep a leash on it when outside. Never let it stray far by itself. Instincts tell it to follow a scent that could lead it up to a hundred miles away.
