Many people go to church. Why? Some would say, “It’s just a family tradition”. For others, going to church means a change from their monotonous or worrisome day to day living.

Some people go to church because they know that they can find true joy only there, in the church. If we ask them, they would say, “As I hear the minister speaking the Word of God from The Bible, as I listen to the sermons, I feel thoroughly joyful. As I understand the contents of the sermon and practice the values, I am amazed at how my life has changed for the better”. Many of these people would have experienced the love and mercy of God in their own lives like numerous people during Christ’s time.

What are sermons? Sermons are religious discourses delivered by a preacher in a church. They consist of stories taken from The Bible. The Sermon on the Mount delivered by Jesus, as written in the Gospel of Mathew, is considered to the most famous. This Sermon documents the core principles of Christianity.

Though the incidents happened 2000 years back and earlier, sermons can be seen to be relevant to this day. It is because they prove as to how God sent his own son to alleviate the sufferings of people and make their lives happy here on earth and thereafter in eternity.

We’ve all heard the saying “A friend in need is a friend indeed”. We feel happy when we think of our friends and we want to be with them. So too, God is our friend. There is Joy in thinking of him. Sermons help us to do this. People who listen to sermons and practice the principles are seen to lead happy lives.
