With the varying extremes in weather that our homes face, we can’t afford to not have a roof that we can depend on. Snow, wind, rain, heat and cold all effect our roof and can cause it to deteriorate, leaving room for water to get through and cause damage. Add in other variables like forest fires, hurricanes and earthquakes and you will find that most shingle roofs just can’t win against all of these adversaries.
So perhaps it is time to consider an alternate roofing material that can easily withstand the many faces of Mother Nature and still stay looking great for many years. A new steel roof is just the answer for our varying weather patterns as it is water resilient, reflects heat, is strong and tough so it can stand up to all that Mother Nature has to offer.
High wind areas are of a particular concern, as strong winds can easily tear off or damage shakes and shingles. With a steel roof the home can withstand sustained winds of up to 120mph without any damage whatsoever. In fire risk areas homeowner’s can sleep better knowing that the roof of their home will not catch fire, increasing the chances that their home will survive. A steel roof also increases the structural integrity of a home, which is a plus when living in an earthquake-prone area.
When thinking about a metal roof, consider the variety of styles and colors that are available. No more do homeowners have to choose a boring corrugated metal roof as there are now styles available to mimic tile or shingle roofs, as well as Spanish tile styles as well. Choose a style that makes your home stand out, or one that blends with the surrounding homes depending on personal preference.
In these times of environmental concern a steel roof also makes a great choice. Made from a minimum of 25% recycled metal a steel roof uses less material and creates less waste than traditional roofing material. While a steel roof will last many years longer than shakes or shingles, it also has the advantage of being fully recyclable when it reaches the end of its lifespan.
During the summer the reflective coating on a steel roof will keep the home cooler, so less energy is wasted on cooling the home. Homeowners can expect to save up to 40% on energy costs with a steel roof over the standard dark asphalt shingles. Other advantages are the reduction in condensation around windows and door, reducing peeling paint and mould growth.
Steel roofs require very little maintenance and will not support the growth of moss or other destructive plant life. It can hold heavy loads of snow and will certainly keep your home dry and cozy. The coating on the roof will keep it looking new for many years to come.
When considering a new roof take into account the benefits of resilient steel roofing material. It will last longer than shingles, look better and require less effort to stay looking great. It will also save you money year after year.
