Hydroxycut Diet Products Recalled Possible Liver Damage

At the urging of the Food and Drug Administration Iovate Health Sciences, the makers of Hydroxycut diet products has agreed to a voluntary recall of 14 Hydroxycut products. Why? Because of possible liver damage!

The FDA has received 23 reports of liver problems, including the death in 2007 of a 19 year old man who lived in the United States. Other patients have experienced symptoms of jaundice, (a yellowing of the skin caused by toxins left in the body by an ailing live) and even liver failure. One has received a liver transplant and another is awaiting a new liver to become available. Regulators say these patients symptoms began after they began using hydroxycut diet products.

Government health officials have warned dieters and body builders of the risks, and recommended they stop using these widely popular supplements immediately!

Iovate Health Sciences has said in a statement that the death of the teenager in 2007 was not caused by Hydroxycut, although they would not elaborate, on what may have caused his death.

The company has said that the number of adverse event reports described by the FDA in it's advisory is small in relation to the millions of people who have used Hydroxycut products over the last seven years.

On its website, http://www.iovate.com/ Iovate Health Sciences said it decided to recall these products out of "an abundance of caution." Consumers can get a refund by returning the diet products to the store that sold them, the company said.

I've never felt safe taking or recommending dietary supplements, as they are not as closely regulated by the FDA as medications are. Because manufacturers don't need to prove to the FDA that their products are safe or that they are even effective I just don't understand why anyone would risk their health by taking them!

The only way the FDA regulates these types of products is by aftermarket reports of problems associated with the product, I for one can not see being a Guinea pig in order to asses a products safety or effectiveness!

You only have this one body given to you, why risk damaging it by taking a possibly unsafe supplement. Life is to short to risk your health on a "shortcut." It's so much safer and wiser (I think) to lose those pounds in a natural, healthy, albeit slower way!
