Breast surgery is one of the feared surgical procedures that impact women today. But there are some men who also have to face this type of surgery; but the large populations of patients that undergo breast procedures are women. There are some information on these types of breast related surgery, what each one is meant to address, and what one can do in order to be supportive of a friend facing one of these procedures.
This time currently three common types of breast surgery are available. First is used only in medical emergencies such as breast cancer, which cannot be contained in any other way. Second was created to help women who want to have larger breasts. And third was designed with the intent of giving women the ability to shrink the size of their breasts should they desire.
First type of breast surgery is the not the popular nor is it the most recommended, but this is used on occasion to save a person's life should breast cancer start to get out of control. Mastectomy type of surgery is usually only preformed on a patient if all of the other breast cancer treatment options are exhausted, and should not generally be considered for any other purpose. When the surgery is over, it is possible to replace the breast with follow up breast reconstruction surgery.
Really second is the most popular type of surgery on the breast which is breast enlargement surgery. Per year, more and more women who are dissatisfied with their breast size decide that they have had enough and opt for larger breasts. In this type of surgery involves adding a small bag of liquid to the inside of the breast in order to make it larger and firmer.
In the last, women who have breasts, which are much larger than they are comfortable with, have the option of partaking in breast reduction surgery. This type of breast surgery is normally the antithesis of breast enlargement surgery, as it is designed to remove material from the breasts in order to shrink them. Breast reduction surgery is complete in one of two methods: either by removing added breast implants to reduce the breasts to their normal size or by removing tissue to reduce the size of naturally large breasts.
Family and friends of someone going through any type of breast related surgery should make it a point to upbeat and support the decision to have the procedure. Although in the case of elective surgery, there are still worries about something going wrong or something being discovered while the procedure is taking place.
A patient having breast surgery can usually return to a normal routine life shortly after surgery. After Breast surgery patient can be resumed these activates for some time:
(i) Work (without heavy lifting)
(ii) Walking
(iii) Light Jogging
This list is related for breast lift surgery, but there are many slight differences in what constitutes normal activity. Breast lift patients normally should avoid strenuous activity and therefore should hold off on exercising for about three to four weeks. Breast lift patients will also make many follow up visits to the surgeon after surgery than those having breast augmentation surgery since there is more suturing involved and careful monitoring is needed.
