I know a lot of people automatically assume that because something is refurbished it MUST mean it's of low quality. And while sometimes this is true - a lot of the times it's not. One of the things you want to look for is a brand name such as Apple, Sony, Magnavox, etc. The reason for this is because the people refurbishing THESE brand name products are most likely going to be the exact brand ON the product. Another thing I find is that there are companies out there that will actually refurbish the item for you. Refurbished laptops are subjected to high levels of performance standards tests at the factories before they are sent out to be sold. Thus, you are assured of a high quality laptop even though it may be refurbished. There are a few different ways that a Macbook can be refurbished.

Factory: Sometimes new laptops are returned to the manufacturer due to some minor problems such as a dent in the case or problems with the screen. Sometimes, these laptops are discovered during the various stages of scrutiny during the manufacturing process itself. These laptops are then fixed and re-checked by the manufacturer. The hard disk is formatted and the operating system is reloaded. The laptop is used for about 4 to 5 hours to check if the laptop is working properly. Eventually a new serial number is fixed onto it to mark it as a factory refurbished laptop. These laptops are then sold by the makers themselves at a reduced cost.

Refurbished Used: Sometimes, laptops used for some time by a user are sold off. This can be for various reasons, often because the user wanted to upgrade to the latest version of the laptop. This used laptop can then be fitted with upgraded parts and sold for a less price. Such refurbished used laptops can be as good as a latest version.

Custom: These laptops are revived laptops which are reassembled so that they match client requirements and penchants. This means a purchaser can define what he wants and the laptop will be refurbished accordingly. Here, a buyer can specify things such as screen size, processor speed, multimedia requirements, hard drive and RAM capacity, etc.

These refurbished laptops are awesome. Why? Well first and foremost you will be paying a reduced price. Maybe you go into a store like Best Buy and see a brand new apple Macbook aluminum, one that has never been used or touched - it costs about $1600 for a 2.4GHz. Yea these Macbooks are awesome but for a lot of people that price is just too high! So you go to find a refurbished but cheap apple Macbook aluminum on a refurb site and your looking at maybe $800. I mean that right there is 50% off! The second reason these are so nice is because in a lot of cases (if you deal with a good, fair, honest company) you will get a Warranty just like you would if you bought a brand new one.

In fact, many times, refurbished laptop computers come with a longer warranty period - normal warranties last for 1 year, while refurbished laptops come with a warranty period which can be extended to up to 3 years. So even if something DID happen - you wouldn't have a problem because you could just go and get it fixed. A few things you might want to look for online in order to find these nifty deals is things like used Macbook air sale, Macbook outlets or refurbished Macbooks. I like going to the outlets personally because these are made for people like you that are looking for a slick deal but still want an amazingly usable computer or laptop that you can have for a very long time.

Honestly I have bought both. Brand spankin' new laptops and refurbs. And I gotta say it - between the price drop and the extra long warranty - you are way better off doing it the cheap way (but high quality) rather than the expensive way. I have had cheap laptops that outlived brand new laptop by years! And remember - just because you get a refurbished Macbook or laptop - it doesn't mean you can't have this drive or this software or this processor. Really if you ended up getting a cheaper laptop, then you would have left over money to customize it how YOU want it not the way THEY want it. And who doesn't love customizing things?!? I know I do! Check out these refurbished Macbooks today - I can almost guarantee that you won't regret it!
