If your little girl has been tasked to be the flower girl in an upcoming wedding, take it as a chance to have fun with her. Spend time together looking over dresses, shoes and accessories according to the wedding’s theme. Hair is always an important part of her look, so set aside some time to decide which hair style to use, and practice how to do it as well. The flower girl’s hair has to be in place long enough to last the event.
Settle a day when you can both be relaxed and unhurried. Sit her down and practice hair styles she can use for the wedding. Fixing hair has always paved the way for a good story telling sessions about when mom was little. You can also recount your own wedding, or the weddings you attended as a child.
She may or may not be enthusiastic with the hair and clothes (our daughters have different interests, after all.), but the time spent together will always be precious.
Common flower girl hair styles are listed below. A good rule of thumb for that final choice is that the hair style is comfortable for your little flower girl, but the hair style will stay in place long enough.
Basic Hairstyles for Flower Girl:
• Straight and loose. Just put some hair product to make it stay in place, away from the face. Better for bigger girls as smaller girls may look washed out towards the latter part of the wedding celebrations. Add some hair accessories, such as tiaras or flower coronets.
• Curled and let loose. Hold hair away from the face with barrettes or pins and let those curls bounce. Can put in
• Hair is swept back, away from the face with a pretty headband, or clips and barrettes.
• Pig tails. Comfy and practical especially for smaller flower girls, add pretty ribbons that match the wedding theme.
• Pony tail. Near the top of the top of the head, can be curled after hair is tied up. Can also be tied low, near the nape for a more formal look.
• Bun. Buns are always formal and beautiful. Can be swept up at the top of the head, or at the back. Two buns at either side of the head can also be cute.
• Braids. French braids look more formal but other braids are also pretty.
• Sculpted. Some hair stylists are more creative and may put some decorative twists and turns and miniature buns in your little flower girl's hair, combined with the other basic hair styles listed above.
• Hats are great if these match the wedding theme and the season.
Flowers are a common hair accessory since the flower girl is expected to be laden with flowers. Flowers can be entwined through the hair or other accessories.
Be careful using too much hair chemicals on your little flower girl. Hair can also be secured with bobby pins as added measure.
On the wedding day, bring a lot of spare bobby pins for your flower girl's hair. It's always better to be prepared and have her comfortable, than fidgety and miserable because of hair gone astray.
