Long hair is a considered to be an object envy amongst many women and it is understandable as to why they would think that way. Long hair makes women look beautiful and it will enhance the beauty of any woman by many times. The main aspect of long hair is the its health and longevity. These are main areas where most women fail when they are trying to grow their hair long.
When you are trying to grow your hair long after a long time or after never having long hair, you must take special care of your scalp. This is because your scalp has never been accustomed to having long hair and hence it will need some special tending to for being able to hold the longer than usual hair. You can start by giving your scalp regular massages. You can do this by using your fingertips to gently rub around in circles all around your hair. Be careful about brushing your hair after this though because it temporarily loosens the hair roots and hence will cause more hair-fall immediately after the massage. However, this massage will enhance the blood circulation within your scalp and it will also help you get rid of dead skin.
You also have to keep your scalp clean, so consider covering your head when you are going out, a bandanna or a hat will do. But if the day is hot and humid, make sure to air out your scalp because otherwise the accumulated sweat will cause hair loss later. It will also create infections and may cause dandruff to appear.
Contrary to the popular belief, shampoo is not too good for your hair. Use it only when your hair is absolutely greasy and non-manageable. Otherwise, try to use natural products like milk and egg to clean out your hair. In fact, if your hair is particularly troublesome, you can try the natural products before shampooing them away. This will help you hair have a healthier growth. The chemicals in shampoo destroy the natural scales on your hair and make it more frizzy and tangled. Use natural conditioners to counter this.
Regular brushing of your hair is a must if you are going to keep it long. You need to do this with a comb that has soft, round tipped teeth and hence does not scratch your scalp. This is so that you do not damage your scalp while brushing it. Depending on the density of your hair, you will need anywhere between 50-100 strokes of the comb or brush. Regular brushing helps your to spread the natural oil your scalp produces (sebum) all over your hair and this helps to protect you hair. The brushing also helps loosen the accumulated dirt and grease, making it come out with the brush. Wash you hairbrush regularly to keep both it and your hair clean.
Braiding is also a good way to keep the dirt away, get a professional to do it for you.
