Ringworm is a very contagious skin disease which is transmitted through a family of fungi known as dermatophytes. This disease can affect the skin of the scalp, hands, feet, chest and the nails. The ringworm inflammation is seen like a darkened ring on the skin (hence the name; it has nothing to do with worms) covered with a silvery border. Ringworm spreads in a circular manner, and the skin inside keeps getting recovered. Hence there will be a dark ring with tender skin in the center. This is an indication of ringworm.

The species of fungi that cause ringworm can grow on the skin and they feed on the dead skin and hair cells they find there. Like most species of fungi they love dark and humid environments.

Treatment:

  1. The seeds of butea are effective in treating several skin problems including ringworm and eczema. A poultice of the leaves is prepared and applied on the affected regions.

  2. What I found that works the best is tea tree oil, from what I understand is that tea tree oil is sent by God because it can heal just about anything. This isn't the most interesting topic to discuss but I felt it was necessary because any kid can contract ringworm.

  3. Ringworm can be avoided if you keep your skin dry and healthy. Do not come in direct physical touch of people or animals suffering fungal skin infections. You can keep the causes of ringworm at bay by regularly airing your locker and keeping your skin covered from constant dampness. Still, if you are infected from some unknown source, you can try some ringworm home remedies and regularly wash the articles of your daily use.

  4. All you need to do is purchase some anti-fungal cream at your local pharmacy and apply it to the infected area. Most home treatment for ringworm creams are available without prescription. Make sure you wash the infected area thoroughly and remove any flaky skin. After that just dry the infected part and apply the home treatment for ringworm ointment. You will start to see results in a couple of days. Most of these creams will remove the infection in approximately 4 weeks.

  5. There are custom remedies that mix some brand name products along with other ingredients to make the ringworm disappear in just 1 week. Nail polish has also been tried with some degrees of success.

  6. Depending on what part of your body is infected with ringworm will determine the length of time it takes to fully cure yourself. Scalp ringworm can take up to ten weeks to cure with a conventional treatment that is prescribed by your doctor. A scalp ringworm cure from your doctor is a shampoo and an oral anti fungal drug. The oral anti fungal is needed because the shampoo in ineffective on its own for the reason it cannot penetrate your scalp to fully cure the infection.
