Building muscle is only hard when you make it hard. If you ask ten different people how to build muscle they will give you ten different answers. You will end up going in all sorts of different directions. The various things you will get told are told to you with good intentions, but some people are unaware that their advice can hurt you more than anything. Let's debunk some of the dangerous things you have probably been told about building muscle or achieving more muscle mass.

Workout even when you are sore:

Soreness comes with working out if you're doing it right, but some people will tell you to workout through this soreness because that is the way to gain muscle. This is not true! When you are trying to build muscle you want to give yourself a good time to recover. Working out when you are feeling sore will only make you sorer. The purpose of breaking down your muscles is that when they build back up they are bigger then before. Allowing yourself good recovery time will enable you to do this properly.

Eating excessively:

People used to tell me if I wanted to gain more muscle I had to eat, eat, and eat some more in order to gain weight. I would stuff myself with whatever I could find that had a lot of calories. All that ended up happening was I would feel sick or I would get a little gut on me. If you are trying to gain weight do not eat to excess, eat the diet you would regularly eat and just keep on building muscle. If you eat to excess you will just put on fat and that's it. You are trying to gain muscle not fat. Do not stuff yourself with junk foods and heavy foods thinking it will help you get more muscle mass. It works for some, but usually the wrong way.

Taking too many supplements:

You can take some supplements like creatine and protein, but you have to be careful not to take too much of these types of products. Protein is probably safe no matter what, but there are various other products out there that are supposed to help you gain weight fast. Look in any fitness magazine and you'll see advertisement for these products, some of these products are good and some of them you should stay away from.

You do not want to build muscle so fast, because if you do your body may not be able to handle it. Build muscle mass slowly and effectively, this way the muscle you gain will be real and not just some water weight muscle that will fade the moment you stop taking certain supplements.

Gaining muscle is easy once you know the basics, break them down and build them up, that is pretty much how it works. The better you break them and the more you break them down the more they will repair themselves and be bigger than before. When you feel like your workout has become ineffective then scale things up to feel the burn again.
