Ever wonder why people say third time lucky? It certainly gives us some optimism when it hasn't worked out time one and time two. We can also find it in Alexander Hislop's "The Proverbs of Scotland" in 1862 "The third time's lucky." From these writings we have the feeling that the saying goes back a great deal further. It could be rooted in the example of John "Baddacombe" Lee who was an English sailor convicted of the murder of Emma Keyse in 1885.
