Finding the best telescopes can do a lot, it can mean the difference of great backyard astronomy or shabby backyard astronomy. Finding the best telescopes can allow you to get years and even decades of fun out of astronomy, whereas cheap versions may frustrate. Join me as we look at where to buy telescope.
Ever had experiences to buy telescope? It can be fun or frustrating. I prefer fun! It does make a big difference, and so I will relate an experience I had over the course of my life when it comes to telescopes and backyard astronomy. After all you want it to be fun don't you?
When I was a child I wanted to get into astronomy. I wanted a telescope, so my dad went out to buy telescope. I got a plastic small thing, and it suited putting it on a mantelpiece and looking at the plastic junk then to use it. No wonder, this sub $50 telescope was not in the category of best telescopes!
Few years later, and a few years older we tried again. This time my dad invested into a sub $100 telescope. This telescope was as skinny as a skeleton. I had some amazing views of the Moon, however it did not last. Frustration kicked in because the tripod and mount where so cheap and flimsy. We returned it promptly for a refund.
Over a decade passed and now armed with my own cash, I was able to look further afield to find something that really works. The Hubble Space Telescope was out of the question! So I settled on a 4.5 reflector. Now this was starting to look like one of the best telescopes!
I have seen a lot in space. I have seen Jupiter, Saturn, Pleiades, and many more objects in the heavens. This telescope was left outside and got pounded by rain, snow, wind and everything. And even though it looks damaged, and pretty much is that it still works!
This is the difference between good telescopes and bad telescopes. Getting the best telescopes generally comes down to price. After all, you get what you pay for. This is an amazing process, and I can't say that whenever you put in high amounts of cash, you will get high amounts of value out of the best telescope, but it does help in most cases!
My suggestion is to invest at least $250 into a telescope. Anything under this figure will give you major compromises, and considering this is a scientific instrument, fake plastics won't count.
That best telescope that I own which is almost in pieces has been with me for over a decade. Even though damaged, it still works, and works great! That is called an investment.
Now consider you look after your telescope. Keep it in a dry place when not in use. You will find that it will last you more than a decade. You will find some amazing fun from a telescope in this way. And you will have fun not frustration. You will get a lot out of your investment, and as you learn, you may decide to get a bigger telescope in the future.
