If you ready to sell your car and want to place a classified ad you should learn how to write an ad that will draw attention as well as one that does not offer the same mistakes that are found in many car classified ads. How to write an effective auto classified ad will be easy if you follow the steps below. You can use this guide for both online and offline classified ads, just remember you can usually add more words with an online ad than one for the newspaper.
Heading
The first thing you should do is come up with an eye catching heading for your used car. Is it good on gas? Is it a classic? Is a one owner? Use its best attributes such as if it is a classic car like a ’57 Chevy that has been restore, your heading should be "Restored ’57 Chevy". If you have a Ford truck great for a work truck, your heading should be something like, "Ready to take on your workload". Both of these headings will draw attention.
Description
Provide an accurate description of your vehicle. Remember to list the model, year, and make of the vehicle. Individuals looking for a vehicle will pass your ad up if you do not list such factors. You should also include the color, mileage, and any damage to the exterior or interior of the vehicle.
Contact Information
If you are using online classified ads, you should leave some type of contact information. If you do not wish to use your home telephone number, you can use your email address. In most cases, though if someone is serious about purchasing your vehicle, he or she will want to speak with you on the telephone.
Pricing
Deciding on the price you should sell your vehicle for is a hard decision to make. If you have a low price, everyone will think the vehicle is a clunker. If you have a large price, then everyone will run away. The idea is to learn what the vehicle is worth and price it comparatively.
Abbreviations
Do not use abbreviations. Just because a car dealer understands these letters, does not mean the average person does, this will be a major turn off.
No No’s when it comes to selling your vehicle
Fluff wording
Do you really think someone looking to buy a vehicle wants to hear all the fluff you are putting in your ad such as how great the car is, or how wonderful the gas mileage was on your last trip. No, they only want to hear about facts such as the year and the mileage.
Write an ad not a sales letter
If you truly want to sell your vehicle, leave the sales copy at work. A person will not buy a vehicle because you sold them through an ad, they will want to see the vehicle and learn about the vehicle before buying. All the hype they read will not get them to fish out their wallet.
