Plagiarism is a serious academic crime committed by students. This crime leads to punishment such as F grade on the plagiarized work submitted to the instructor or for the course he or she is enrolled in. There could be a possibility that student may be expelled form the college or university. Students with the usage of internet often lead themselves into trouble. The hype of completing the paper as soon as possible often leads them to present plagiarized work.
What exactly is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is an act of copying the work of other writers. It is equal to the piracy practices. It is derived from a Latin word which means to kidnap or violate others property.
What are the types of plagiarism?
Plagiarism has been divided into three types on the basis of the intensity of plagiarism.
- Minimal Plagiarism:
This type of plagiarism means that the student has used synonyms for the original paper. This type of plagiarism can easily be found due to the wrong placement of references.
- Substantial Plagiarism:
By adding more details in the original text and using new sentences in order to change the pattern of the paper.
- Complete plagiarism:
This means that the original copy has been used without any changes.
Who detects plagiarism?
Plagiarism in the paper could be detected by the teachers. The plagiarized work could be easily detected through software. There could be repetitive use of popular source over and over by many students which could lead to the condition of plagiarism. Use of irrelevant sources with no information credible to the written text also causes plagiarism.
How to avoid plagiarism?
Plagiarism could be avoided by not using copy pasted texts. Students commit this crime because of the less time period to finish their academic papers. It is better to use your time efficiently and refraining from plagiarism. Another way to stay safe from plagiarism is to cite the references properly. Using the right sources is important. Always choose credible and relevant sources for your academic writing.
