Returning visitors are those who return to your website after visiting it once implying that your website’s content is strong enough to make visitors come back. New visitors are the ones who visit your site for the first time and their high number shows that your marketing efforts have been successful.
There has always been a debate on what type of users are better for your site? New or Returning?
We always assume that attracting new visitors is the best way to popularize your website. True but not 100%, Returning visitors are equally responsible for the web presence. What good is the website, if it does not engage the visitor enough to revisit.
Every online user makes some favorite stops for the desired information. These favorite stops can be through bookmarks. Why would a user bookmark your site? They will bookmark only if you provide them with the updated information they are looking for.
Importance of Returning Visitor:
Most of the online businesses often take more than a visit to make a sale or conversion. It is relatively difficult to convert visitors on their first visit. Moreover, there is a possibility that the visitors might not need your service or product at this moment. They will visit you when they are in need of that product or service.
We cannot ignore new or returning visitor. They both have their individual importance. New visitors are required to get your service or product presented to a large number of audience and returning visitors are required to increase conversions.
Tracking: All Analytics software allow you to track new and return visits with their related data e.g., landing page. And, if you have the data for the landing page of both new and returning visitor, you know which pages are working and which are not.
How to get returning visitors:
-
Related Content: The content has to be related and focused to your ‘Areas of Works’. Moreover, same content cannot work for everyone. The content needs to be tailored to the point that you even think about how your company profile will be presented to respective segments. The quality of writing has to be top-notch business grade.
-
Offer Original & Quality information on your website: The mantra to attract traffic to your website is to start offering original & unique industry information which is hard to find. This will build your image as the ‘Industry Information Resource’ and will make visitors follow you any guidance.
-
Keep Feeding your website with updated content: Updated content will make visitors come back for more and more information. Search engines prefer such sites.
-
Search Engine Positioning: If you are positioned higher in the Search Engines against other competitors, you are bound to get more New as well as Return visitors.
-
Social Media: Use Social Media websites like Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin to share information with your targeted audience. Share your writings & researches, participate in discussions, and help others by solving their problems. This will propel people to visit your website more often and look for desired information.
-
Free Downloads: Offer free e-books, whitepapers, CDs, consultations, webinars etc to your new visitors which will get them to visit you again for more free stuff. People love these and will keep coming. This will not only increase new and repeat traffic but also help in link building.
