Those who know about the region and its recent history would agree that no other place in the world has seen such a fast pace of development in terms of infrastructure and real estate in the last 10-15 years as the Gulf. The region is undoubtedly the playground of the modern civil engineer. If you like working hard and giving your imaginations new horizons to explore, Gulf gives you all chances to shine as a civil engineer.
The kind of exposure that young engineers get in civil engineering jobs in the Gulf is reason enough to accept jobs here. All major locations such as Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh etc have seen a spurt in the construction of hotels, modern offices, townships, business centers, modern residential spaces etc. Besides these, the improvement in infrastructure and transport facilities and setting up of industries also called for mega-scale construction work of bridges, fly-overs, tunnels, road and rail networks etc. With such large scale construction work being undertaken, the number of civil engineering jobs in the Gulf also rose tremendously.
There are many real estate and building companies that hire civil engineers in the Gulf. Besides big companies, there are also smaller companies that look for talent I n this field. Also, many international construction companies have set shop in the region to leverage the immense opportunities that have cropped up. Qualified and experienced civil engineers are lapped up by these companies like hot cakes. Those with an exposure in the international construction industry are given preference. Some jobs are project-based and when the project gets over the employment term also ends. However, there are permanent and contract based jobs too irrespective of the length and the number of construction projects that a company may be handling.
Jobs for civil engineers in the Gulf are very high-paying and people have made life-time savings and fortune by taking up these lucrative jobs. No doubt, the work is hard but those who are willing to work hard and put in the best of mind and talent in their job are given due acknowledgement in terms of money and career growth. Civil engineers benefit a lot from their jobs in the Gulf. The learning curve is also sharp with the kind of projects that they get to work on. For instance, the hotels and modern townships that were built in Dubai around ten years ago and are still under construction are architectural marvels. The civil engineers and architects who have worked on these projects have got their names in the history books. Similarly, the kind of modern structures that are being built even today offer unsurpassable opportunities to civil engineers.
Not just in terms of experience and exposure, Gulf engineering jobs are quite rewarding in terms of money too. The jobs are quite high-paying and with the incomes in the Gulf being tax-free, the amount of disposable income for expatriates increases many a notch. The lifestyle that expatriates enjoy in the Gulf is also quite comfortable and enjoyable. Since the number of expatriates that has migrated to the Gulf to take up jobs is quite high, the region is quite open and welcoming to the foreign workforce. Their needs are taken care of and they are paid handsomely. However, the culture in the Gulf is conservative though the degree of conservatism varies from country to country. You would need to approach the region with an open mind and accept the cultural changes that you encounter here. The crime rate is low because the laws of the land are very strict.
