Most people have gone through a breakup, and no matter how many times you go through one they don't get any easier.

Once the breakup has taken place, most people really want to get their ex back, sometimes despite abuse. If you have been a party to an abusive relationship, and your ex broke up with you, then count yourself lucky.

Aside from that, relationships are pretty predictable. There's the initial infatuation and newness period and things are just fantastic. Once the newness wears off and both parties get more comfortable, things start to change. Little things start to bother you that you overlooked before, and the other person doesn't seem quite as perfect anymore.

Once the newness is gone, the relationship starts to get testing. This is where the rubber meets the road so to speak. Either both parties are going to work on the relationship, and overcome these things, or things start to unravel. When the later happens, sometimes one person will decide they want out.

So here's the question: Is your relationship worth saving, even if the other person wanted out? If so, here's some steps you can take start making this happen.

  1. Say I'm Sorry

The biggest first step you can take is to say you're sorry. Sometimes this works miracles. However, you must be sure you know what you are apologizing for. Don't just run in and say I'm sorry without saying what for.

Be careful when apologizing as you don't want to get pulled into an argument. Don't be defensive of other issues arise in discussion. Keep yourself calm and collected.

  1. Talk through things

If you can, get your ex to agree to a time and place where you can sit down and talk. Don't force her/him if they don't want to. If that's the case, simply move to the next step. If she/he does agree, then keep calm and start working through the issues. Don't play the blame game.

Be objective when talking to your ex. Using a therapist might be a good option. Otherwise talk about things in an understanding manner. Put yourself in their shoes.

  1. Give me some space

Giving each other time to reflect and calm down is crucial. This can be one of the hardest things to do also because you naturally want to see them. You can't miss someone unless they aren't around for awhile.

  1. Put on the appearance of caring about yourself

In a nutshell, show your ex that your life has not come to a halt because of this. If you are calling all the time, crying, desperate, or clingy, you will not be successful. Get out and do things, and hang out with friends. Show your ex you still have a life without them.O anyway. Wait until the next day to call them back. Then you can apologize for being busy and not having time to call them back. They may even start coming after you at this point.
