Different people have different tastes in gardening, some like small and cozy gardens while others like huge flourishing ones. But all gardeners will agree that the reason they have taken up gardening as their hobby is due to their beauty. Your garden may look lovely during the day, but what about night time? The beauty of your garden can be enhanced even after sunset by lighting it with strategically placed lamps. This, however, involves additional wiring and extra electricity expenditure. So, if you want to avoid that, try out solar lighting for making your garden a gorgeous beauty even at night.

Let us first get to the basics of solar lighting. During the day the small solar panels fixed on the lights take up the solar energy to charge the rechargeable batteries. These are usually the inexpensive AA size ones. As soon as the daylight fades away, these lights are automatically switched on. Thanks to the photo sensors which will cut down your concern of switching on and off the lights. So opting for these automatic solar lights will save you a lot of time and energy.

If you think that during those seasons when the panels get less sunlight the light will not function properly, then get those lights where the panel can be separated and placed at such a place where the sun shines for the most part of the day. This is not a problem. You just have to buy different mechanisms for the lights.

There are many designer lights to go with various garden layouts. You can even find lights shaped and finished like rocks. You can only see them when they light up and glow in the dark. Find those which are easy to install and service in case they go wrong. You can have them erected on ground, hang them from hooks and even simply lay them down carefully on the turf. You can also get designer lighting if you want something special for your garden.

Generally garden lighting means path lighting. The lights are designed in such a way that the lights fall downwards on the path. Placing them 6 to 8 feet apart would be very effective in spreading the light all over the path. In case the path is not very flat and straight then bring the lights close together.

The look and finish of the garden lights is very important. If you do not get natural finishes, use green or black fittings. They blend into the garden very effectively. If you have any special designer lighting, then make sure that you use them effectively to get the maximum decorative value out of them.

Solar powered spot lights can give an extra dimension to your garden. They are mild compared to the hard wired lighting but they can have a dream like effect on your garden. Use them to highlight a particular tree, a statue or the line of tall trees at the back of your garden.

A complaint about solar lighting is that they do not last long. This may happen due to lack of maintenance. Just keep the solar panels dust and cobweb free and make sure that the fixtures are alright. Then your solar garden lights can go on and on, long enough for you to get bored with their look!
