Porcelain veneers can be used treat a number of teeth problems. They are very thin and are perfectly fitted to each of your teeth. They are a very strong shell of porcelain, which is bonded to the front of the teeth to cover imperfections and protect your teeth. In fact, porcelain veneers feel like your natural teeth. Being translucent, porcelain reflects light and the color is completely matched to the color of your natural tooth. It has a glass-like quality that makes porcelain resistant to staining.
Apart from improving the beauty of your smile, porcelain veneers can also correct many dental flaws. These include cracks, chips, broken teeth, misshapen teeth, short teeth, gaps, tooth erosion, crooked teeth, and discoloration. So, if you have one problem affecting several teeth, you may just use porcelain veneers rather than repairing them individually.
Though one can straighten crooked teeth with traditional and invisible braces, it can be painful and time consuming. Getting veneers is neither painful nor time consuming. In addition, it will address other imperfections like discoloration. Porcelain veneers can be used in combination with other procedures too
However like every other procedures, porcelain veneers also have some disadvantages that you need to consider.
1.They can come off or break: Though porcelain veneers are very strong and can last for years, they may come off or break. In case, the veneer comes off, you can probably get it reattached by your cosmetic dentist. However, you cannot repair it if the veneer breaks. In that case, you need to have a new veneer made. Thereby, you need to take good care of them and never use your teeth with veneers as bottle openers.
2.The process of porcelain veneer application is not reversible: Your cosmetic dentist will need to remove a small amount of enamel from the front of the teeth before placing porcelain veneers. This may change the look of the natural teeth. Thus after the process, your teeth will never look aesthetically pleasing without the veneers.
It also increases your tooth-sensitivity as a small amount of enamel has been removed from your natural tooth. The procedure of porcelain veneer is more expensive in comparison to composite dental veneers. However, the benefits of porcelain veneers are much more than its negative aspects. It can change your look drastically and can give a natural finish to your beautiful smile for years..
