Whether you are looking to enjoy golden sandy beaches or mountain scenery, you can enjoy the best of the French countryside while camping in France. With parks offering fun activities and good facilities, camping holidays in France offer the perfect opportunity to explore the beautiful and varied landscapes of the region.
The Beaches of the South West
If you decide on a camping holiday in France, the beaches on the south west coast have so much to offer. Joined together, they stretch more than 220 kilometres, which mean that you have plenty of beach to choose from, and plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy.
One hidden beach gem is Plage les Océanides. Well worth the short walk to find, it is a quiet spot you might want to seek out during your camping holidays in France. The beach is accessed from the car park between Capbreton and Labenn Ocean, via a sandy path that leads you past former vineyards and lilac-speckled sand dunes. The Bay of Biscay awaits you at the end of the path, as well as views of Biarritz and the Spanish coast to the South. Because the Plage les Océanides is tucked away and relatively sheltered, it is just like having your own private beach.
An ideal France camping ground in the vicinity of this beach, and the many others in the area, is Camping le Ruisseau, Biarritz. For convenient access to the surf, this campsite is situated near the coast, with the Pyrenees filling the horizon to the west. The site includes a swimming pool complex with exciting slides and lagoon-style pools to enjoy in the sunshine, as well as an indoor pool.
Biarritz is a Basque city with a history in the whaling trade and was once settled by the Vikings. It is now popular also with surfers because of its plentiful beaches and breaking waves. It is a picturesque place to take a camping holiday in France.
The Mountain Lake at Annecy in the Rhône-Alpes
If you’re after a slightly more mountainous France camping experience then you could do worse than head for Lake Annecy in the south east of France.
The lake takes its source from a spring and numerous mountain streams in the Rhône-Alpes, which make its water beautifully clean. The crystal clear water makes it a lovely place to swim during the summer, although after September the water can turn rather cold. The lake is long and deep with pretty inland beaches.
The town of Annecy, at the northern end of the lake, is a lovely historic town with quaint houses at the water’s edge. The streets and canals here are lined with flowers, and there are plenty of opportunities to get ice cream.
The views are spectacular in this beautiful region of France. Camping la Serraz is located twenty minutes away from Annecy at the southern tip of the lake, and from there you can appreciate the mountains and forests all around. The village of Doussard is home to Camping la Serraz, and the site has everything you could want for a holiday camping in France. As well as Lake Annecy within a ten minute walk, sights include the impressive Gorges du Fier, which is seventy metres deep. Doussard has a number of golf courses nearby, and a theme park a little more than an hour’s drive away to add some fun to a scenic camping holiday in France.
