Overcoming low self-esteem might seem like a tall order, but it's important to know that you CAN take those steps towards becoming a more confidence and self-assured YOU. No matter how you may feel about yourself today, overcoming low self-esteem starts with knowing that tomorrow will be infinitely better.
All it takes are a few lifestyle tweaks here and there to start reaping the benefits of high self-esteem. And not just the kind of high self-esteem that will allow you to finally talk to your friends and family members with an incredible feeling of social freedom...
...I'm talking about the kind of self-esteem that will literally change the course of your life.
Gaining confidence has nothing to do with changing the way you look or making more money; in fact, some of the most gorgeous and rich people on the planet have nil self-esteem. No, overcoming low self-esteem has everything to do with reprogramming the way you think about yourself, and the contribution you're making to the world around you. Your mind is an incredibly powerful tool that can be used to your advantage - all you have to do is learn what triggers to pull to give yourself a boost of confidence whenever you need it.
If you're ready to overcome your low self-esteem permanently and start enjoying the kind of confident and stress-free life that you know you deserve, then let's start working on those vital lifestyle tweaks right now!
Find Yourself A Starting Point -
Everyone has bad days here and there - but for people suffering from low self-esteem, those bad days seem to happen constantly. Instead of tearing yourself down, it's time to find a starting point where you can start building yourself up again. But don't do this yourself - after all, you might be too critical of yourself to see your good points! Instead, get a family member or friend who knows you well to point out everything that's good about you. You don't have to believe it right away...but next time you look in the mirror, repeat what your friend said about yourself. Soon, your mind will catch up with your mouth.
Put Yourself In New Situations-
A lack of self-esteem often comes from feeling as though you're not in control of your life. Throwing yourself in a new situation where you have to depend upon yourself won't just give you a confidence boost: it will actually show you that you ARE in control of your life. Visit a new place, start to learn a new language or take a cooking class that focuses on a foreign cuisine. The realization that you do have the power to see yourself through new situations will help your mind to realize that you're capable of controlling your life.
Surround Yourself With Positive People-
Unfortunately, low self-esteem just doesn't result from self-criticism, but from the criticisms of negative people around us. If you're continually surrounded by people who are critical of you or make mean comments, then it's time to get yourself some new friends! Surrounding yourself with more positive influences (whether it's someone you really look up to at school or work or a friend who always has a kind word) will do much when overcoming low self-esteem.
Make Daily Goals-
Don't just sit through that next board meeting without speaking up! Make it a daily goal to voice your opinion in class or at work. Each time you fulfill that daily goal, give yourself a small reward, such as a treat after dinner or a new video game. As these goals become easier, up the ante: speak three to four times during a meeting or classroom session, or volunteer to take the lead at the next staff meeting. You'll have fun meeting your goals, and you'll hardly realize that you're skyrocketing your own self-esteem along the way!
Do The Things You Love-
During these busy times, it can be easy to forget to do those activities that make us feel happy. Whether you love reading a good mystery novel or enjoy visiting museums, do the things you love in order to give yourself that boost you need. Again, overcoming low self-esteem is all about surrounding yourself with positive influences - and the more positive your environment, the more you'll blossom and grow into a confident and self-assured person!
