What’s an influenza virus?
An influenza virus is a contagious virus that can spread from one person to another through the aerial route. It is present in tiny droplets that are spread in the air by an infected person through sneezing or coughing. In some cases, the flu virus can also spread by touching an infected material and then touching your nose or mouth.
Symptoms of flu
The most common symptoms of flu are fever, chills, headache, extreme tiredness, sore throat, dry cough, runny nose, muscle aches, stomach problems, and chest discomfort. These symptoms normally last for a week in case of a typical flu infection.
How to treat the influenza virus?
Tamiflu can be considered for the treatment as well as the prevention of flu, provided it’s suitable for you. The dosing schedules of Tamiflu can be different for flu treatment and flu prevention. For flu treatment, Tamiflu doses must be taken within 2 days of experiencing the flu symptoms and the dosing schedule is 1 capsule to be taken twice daily for 5 days. The dosing schedule for flu prevention is 1 capsule to be taken daily for about 10 days.
Although a safe and proven drug, Tamiflu isn’t completely free from side effects. It can cause some undesirable side effects that are normally mild.
Side effects of Tamiflu
Some common side effects of Tamiflu are moderate nausea, stomach ache and vomiting. These side effects are generally well tolerated. However, in rare cases, risk of side effects such as seizures, confusion, hallucinations, or abnormal behaviour may increase. If you experience any of these side effects, then you should seek immediate medical help.
If you take proper precautions during the treatment with Tamiflu, you can treat the flu infection effectively. Some people may be allergic to some of the ingredients of Tamiflu. Therefore, this drug isn’t recommended for everybody.
Tamiflu is also not recommended for pregnant women or nursing mothers. It can cause complications to the unborn child or the nursing infant. People with kidney troubles or any other health issues should also avoid taking this medication.
