As a devoted pet owner, you care a great deal about your pet's health. However, you may not know that proper pet food storage is essential to helping your pet live a long and happy life. There are a couple potential dangers to your furry friend’s food you can avoid by using proper containers which ultimately ensure that your pet’s kibble is always fresh.

In the past I didn't think too much about pet food storage. I'd buy a big bag of cat food and just "roll down" the top of the bag thinking that would be enough protection to keep it from going bad. However, no matter how tight that bag is rolled down it’s probably not airtight. Now, you might not think that it’s a big deal for kibble since it’s already dry, but even kibble has a bit of moisture in it which keeps it soft enough for your cat or dog to chew. The faster the food dries out, the harder it becomes, which means it will be more difficult for your pet to eat. This can lead to problems with your pet’s teeth earlier in life than they would normally crop up. Proper pet food storage can easily prevent this.

Another problem that can arise from poor pet food storage is the presence of insects. When your cat or dog’s food isn’t in an airtight container, it will easily be found by bugs. Not only is the thought of ants and other vermin crawling around in your pet’s food pretty disgusting, but these insects are more likely to find their way into your living quarters just by the scent of your animal’s kibble seeping through a partially open bag or box.

As you can see, proper pet food storage is essential to not only your pet’s health, but also the cleanliness of your living space. It’s also a fairly easy problem to take care of. Take a look around your home and if you feel that your animal’s food isn’t being stored as well as it could be then it’s probably time for a new pet food storage container. So act now! Your pet will thank you in the long run.
