If you type “making money on the internet” into any search engine, you will get a ton of results promising you a 6 or 7 figure income with “little to no work,” “completely automated” and always with “100% Guaranteed results.” But you better act fast because this “exclusive” information, which is generally about affiliate marketing or something similar, (discounted from $299 to $34.99) will only be available to a limited number of people and then will never be available to the public again!

And when asked why the website owner is sharing these precious secrets, the answer is always something to the effect of “I have all the money I’ll ever need or want and I was once broke like you (you being the person reading the website) and I want to help other people become financially independent.” The whole “karma” thing.

I’ve been scammed by these sales pitches before and it always seems to be a hassle to get your money back.

Taking surveys on line is another popular ploy. Many sites charge a membership fee and there are sites that will give you the same resources for free. At any rate, when I tried it, 75% of the surveys I tried to do were either closed out or it was determined that I was not eligible. Almost every one of the surveys I completed made you eligible for a monthly drawing for $1000 whatever. The few that didn’t, gave out a coupon for $25 off this or a free lunch at McDonalds, etc. No cash made for any of the time I spent on that either.

I have found that the best way to make some extra money, working from home on the internet, is to use freebie sites, which is a growing phenomenon. As long as I can remember being able to surf the internet, I've seen those pop up and banner ads that ask you a ridiculous questions like:

"Whose butt is this?"

A. J-Lo

B. Cameron Dias

C. Lindsey Lohan.

And if you "answer correctly" you win a free iPod or Xbox or whatever. Then you get to the site and they want you to complete a "free trial offer" of half a dozen things before you get your "free gift" These are not the type of sites that will provide you with any consistent form of extra cash.

The sites I’m referring to you have to register as a member with (always free) and the trial offers are organized and straight forward with all the important information. This includes, the price of the trail, if any, the payout for completing the trial, and the requirements you must fulfill to get credit for completing the trial. More often then not the payout is more then the cost, but not always. You should know all this with out even going to the offering company’s website.

When you decide to complete an order, make sure you know what the parameters of the trial period are, including the length of the trial and the cost of the service after the trial ends. This way you can avoid any billing surprises and cancel, if you don’t like the service, with in the specified amount of time.

It is also very important to make sure you’re browser settings are correct to receive credit for offers (usually this means enabling all cookies). Also understand the freebie site’s rules and procedure for cashing out.

Another way to make money from these sites is through referrals. Most freebie sites pay you around $40 for each “green” referral. A green referral is someone that has registered at the site and has completed at least one offer.

You certainly won’t “get rich quick” or be able to “fire your boss” participating in freebie sites, but you will be able to make some extra cash part time doing something easy and fun.
