Tips for Getting Pregnant.

There are many different reasons why couples have difficulty conceiving. In actuality the chances of conception on any given time is fairly remote. Ovulation occurs for just a few days out of every month and if everything is perfect, conception only occurs around 20% of the time during ovulation. Listed below are five do’s and don’ts that maximize your chances for conception.

Do’s!

  1. Make love...unprotected of course. It seems obvious but it bears repeating, intercourse without any protection including the pill, spermicidal lubricant or prophylactic. Stop taking the pill, the longer you wait after you stop taking the pill, the higher the chances for conception. Have intercourse as often as it feels right, whenever it feels right regardless of what time of day it is or when you last had intercourse.

  2. Calculate ovulation. Ovulation is the fertile period of a woman’s menstrual cycle. Knowing when it begins and ends will enable you to have intercourse when you are most likely to conceive.

  3. Get to a healthy weight. Find out what is a healthy BMI for you and get there. Overweight and underweight condition will lower the chances for conception as well as potentially harm your new baby. In addition, for men, being physically fit will allow the body to produce more sperm, as well as, obtain and maintain and erection more easily.

  4. Be aroused during love making. Studies have shown that the chances for conception increase if both partners are at the height of arousal when having intercourse.

  5. Elevate hips for 15 minutes or so after intercourse. Post intercourse, most sperm will die in the fallopian tube before reaching an egg. With the hips elevated you will provide the path of least resistance for the sperm to reach your egg.

Do Not’s!

  1. Don’t wear briefs...aka...tightey whiteys. This is for the man of course. Using boxers allow the scrotum sac to hang further away from the body. This allows the temperature of the scrotum to be optimal for sperm production. As a side note, boxer briefs are the same as briefs.

  2. Don’t stress about getting pregnant. Sometimes the biggest obstacle to getting pregnant is not physical at all. Higher stress levels can decrease libido, arousal and energy robbing you of the most important aspect of getting pregnant....love making.

  3. Don’t smoke, drink or do drugs. Bad for you and your mate, horrible for your baby. Smoking decreases sperm count, adds numerous other health ailments to the mother and decreases birth weight of the baby. Even over-the-counter drugs should be cleared by a doctor before continued use while trying to get pregnant.

  4. Don’t jump straight into the shower after intercourse. Stew hips elevated for 15 minutes.

  5. Don’t use lubricant if at all possible. Chemicals can interfere with the sperms ability to reach the egg and you want the sperm to have the best chance possible. This applies to any chemical or medication that is inserted into the vagina. Talk to your doctor if you are using any medications to find out if it may interfere with your chances for conception.
