Car electric windows, also known as electric windows are automobile windows which can be raised and lowered by merely pressing a button or a switch, as compared to using the old hand-turned crank handle. Owning a vehicle that comes standard with power windows is definitely more practical and convenient to say the least. You just need to remember some automotive jargons that make such car electric windows operate. For instance, consider the term window regulator, power windows are installed with regulators that enable the windows to go up and down when activated. The window regulators work by simply converting the rotary action of the motor into a vertical and linear motion of the power windows.

However, what if your window regulator stops working? Would you settle for public transport and leave your ride in the garage simply because the power window isn’t working? The car electric window, just like any other mechanical moving part does break down overtime. You may encounter slow upward or downward movement, falling off the track, rising just halfway up, not fully closing, or simply not moving up or down. These are all telltale signs that your car electric window requires a bit of repair and maintenance. Having a faulty power window can be annoying at times. Say for instance that the window regular becomes stuck and does not allow the window to open. You’ll have trouble paying at toll booths or even getting your order from a drive-thru fast food chain, or in case you need some fresh air in the event that your air conditioning unit also bogs down.

Such scenarios are perhaps one of the biggest driving headaches a driver would encounter. Fortunately, car manufacturers have come up with more durable and reliable units. Moreover, there is wide range of replacement regulators, buttons/switches, motors and other parts that are available at your car dealer and even in aftermarket car shops to get your car electric window back in working order.

A word of caution though, make sure you bring your car to a reputable shop or mechanic so you won’t get robbed with a simple replacement of a malfunctioning part of your power window assembly.

The best way to prevent such type of problem is to go online and look for replacement parts. There are scores of online auto parts shops that offer car electric window parts at an affordable cost, but that does not necessarily mean that you get substandard quality. There are lots of online shops that offer OEM parts of high quality. They also provide quality service at reasonable prices. There are even times when you can perform minor repairs so you can minimize repair expenditure. You can consult manuals and get hold of the appropriate tools needed – which in most cases include screwdrivers, a 10 mm or 12 mm socket and a wrench. By carefully following the repair instructions, and with a little tweak here and there, you can have your car electric window functioning in no time.
